Winch
In the past two weeks the number of Dead Sea birds washing up has increased and this week I've seen four dead or very sick sea lions. Whats going on? Well it's the stained water you have been seeing the past month or so. That's not dirty water, its nutrient water that went toxic. The bait fish eat the proto plankton and up the food chain the toxin travels. Even with a clearing of the water quality the seals are still feeling the effects and are dying. Saw one today on sloat, one on Rockaway Tuesday. The question is if your eating stripers, salmon, baitfish, perch, in any large amounts your probably ingesting the same toxins. Be smart use the guidelines on the amount of fish you should be eating from these waters. Especially pregnant women or Children.

norcalkat
This happens every few years and is one of the reasons why they do not recommend you eat a striper bigger than 27" , and at that 1 8oz serving of the smaller fish a month. These fish grow slowly and are exposed to the contaminated water in the bay, ocean and delta run off. They should have a slot and let the big ones be a gamefish for those that seek the thrill. If our fishery turned around it would be such a revenue maker for our coast. Check this out, these are posted all over the bay and delta Edited August 28, 2017 by norcalkat

tightlinetimmy
I called DFG about that dead seal on sloat - not sure if it's still there. They told me to call another DFG office, then another office, then marine mammal control... No one cared, no one wanted to pick it up. I did get the tag number on the seal and reported that, but they seemed to really not give a ****.
