dmatt
Hello Everyone. Looking for some help with my first Van Staal. The handle fell off due to a monster bluefish. Is this something that has to be sent back to the manufacturer or is it an easy repair. Its a VR200 that has been used 5 times.\
Knot local
Use the supplied tool to thread it back on and see if it goes on tight. I would send it back if you have a back up reel. I had 2 VR's both had issues. I sent both back and Van Staal sent me 2 new ones.
giant basshole
That's more than a handle , that's the whole side plate . Going to have to add some oil before reassembly , and make sure you line up the pin on the ring gear to the traverse . Highlander1
Never dreampt that could happen, thats disgraceful. I'd get that returned and repaired or replaced and then I'd sell it and take my losses, just can't accept paying a premium and getting something either defective or inferior. I could never feel confident in that reel again. "Thats as big as a fish that size gets" - Russ WilsonRIP JM
avet4life
if the side plate came off like that. i would check the main gear to see if there are damage. if everything is good. try to take handle off. and reassemble according to van staal video guide
ged
Personally, I would return it and get a new one. The side plate is threaded on. If it came off without unscrewing it, there is a problem.
handi2
The 2 new reels of this model I have seen both had to go back. The owner was sent 2 brand new reels. They went bad too in 2 weeks. They got noisy and hard to crank.
Wire For Fire
And stuff like this is why I waits to get new latest and greatest... I've been the guine pig to many times and have enough paper weights.. return that bad boy... get new one .. flip it and buy a gently used vs... your welcome I'm very curious exactly how happend... it can't unthread so it must of pulled straight out the threads??? Do the threads on the side cover or body look efffed up ?? I'm imaging they gotta be.. some closer pics would be nice Edited May 14, 2017 by Wire For Fire
Seeweed
How about, he just hooked onto a very large fish. What do you expect to happen, if you snagged Moby Dick? (*edited - member also formerly known as 'HolyHogy')
dmatt
I ended up sending a pic to van staal and they said to send it back to them. It can be put back on easily I've learned but I have more confidence in my other cheaper $150 reels then this particular $700 reel. Sucks that it fell apart on me on the best bluefish bite I've ever been on. Be a great commercial for another reel company to get a video of me walking all the way back on the beach with a bluefish on and my shiny new van staal handle in my hand while I haul the line in with my hand. prican1
I hate to say it but once again VS tries to reinvent the wheel!!! All these new bullsh$t VS reels the VR, VSX and whatever else is coming down the pike are crap!!! Old school VS, nuff said!!
Dah seee
I've been steering my friends away from the VR series. I would send it in and let them take care of it. Don't even bother to fix it yourself and make it more of a hassle down the road when it breaks again.
dmatt
I sent it in and then sent me back a new one.
