Sharky Weekend

135 posts in this topic

Well, made it to Rivera Beach. 2 beached. The heavy surf/winds gets 'em fired up. Just hard lugging those suckers in the dark solo!

Nice stuff! Thinking of hitting sebastian in a week or so... I want a damn shark! :)

They're out there. Get the tide right, the wave action right and it's a sure thing. Got a few more the other night....

Lit up the local public beach for some sharky action LOL. Most folks were very nice and full of questions. Hit the sand later and got a 9ft Hammerhead on a spinning rod! Now that was insane!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now that's an idea....maybe even a shark thread sticky. I see more and more sharkers out there nowadays.

This week was  "shark week". Got 9 more fish landed. The Blues are the biggest I have seen down here.

It's possible that a tagged shark may be captured. It's important to get the tag number and report it to NOAA (Apex Predator Program). That way, they can track the shark for their research purposes. You can do this online. They will send all the information to you on the captured shark with capture location, tracking location, etc. The below shark made a long journey from south Georgia to my area in south Florida. Pretty cool.

Another HAMMER at my "hammer hole". Gotta get them back in the water fast. Try not to beach these fish. They will fight to the death. Get 'em in and get 'em back in the water quickly, This one was pushing 10 feet. They are the absolute top guns to fight.

Were you getting the hammers on spinners as well? If so, thats pretty dang awesome, I've always wanted to run into one on spinning gear.

Yes, the Hammer was caught on a spinning rod....12ft surf rod. Quite a feat!!! That rod was doubled--tripled over--creaking and moaning the whole time. Never have heard of a big Great Hammer caught on a spinning rod and LANDED....ever. Not for the faint of heart. I do not recommend targeting them on a spinning rod, either. Puts a TON of stress them. But it does show that they are there, amongst other species....as the saying goes "Ya Never Know". And if you do happen to hook one, just get them in as quick as possible and back into the water just as fast. Might have to swim with them for a while....but that's just part of the release/reviving effort, same as with most all other big sharks that put up a long drawn out fight. Tight Lines.
