When fishing the south side at night do you use a light to help you walk through the  dry rock field?

How about using a light to wade out to distant wet rock perches? Not shining the whole area, just pointed down at  the rocks you have to navigate through.

If you are wetsuiting and getting cold, what can you wear to make it warmer. I have a neoprene jacket, but that gets too warm. Someone suggested a simple raincoat to cut the wind. Another suggested a cotten long sleave shirt underneath. Do you think that works?

Thanks

When its a wee bit chilly, Under Armour pants and long sleeve shirts under the Wetsuit do a great job.. When you wear your wetsuit and its windy, its a great idea to wear any type of thin jacket  to cut the wind.. I wear a zip up water proof parka shell, so if it get warm, I can unzip it. as for lights, I'll use my lights on rocky shoreline for sure.  Ive tripped enough walking out there and broken enough guides, tip tops, and reel handles to not give a rats ass about a guy 200 yards away who complains I have my light on. I walked to Caswells years ago, when I got close, I turned off my light, tripped and cracked my reel handle.  I had to walk ALL THE WAY back to get another Reel.. Not worth it.. IMO.. Luckily, I didnt walk all the way back and decided to fish Browns instead and I had a few good fish.. :)

I second BC's advise.  I always carry a spare just be on a safe side.

IMO guys make too big of a deal about headlamps. Walking into the southside of Montauk can trip you up, so yes I used a my neck light.

As far as fishing with it on NEVER, I only use it to unhook a fish if its a real dark night, if I can see I don't use it.

Walking out to a rock I want to fish I don't use it because once im in the water I move fairly slow, so my chances of tripping are all but eliminated.

Agreed..I could care less if someone complains about my light, I've tripped enough times to not give a rats ass what anyone else thinks...Now, I will not shine my light onto or in anyone elses direction or all over the place, enough to navigate is all that is needed.

I used a 2AA powered Maglite those little bulbs would blow at the worst possible time. So I bought a waterproof light in an electrical supply house (I believe Klein makes it) it has save me more than once and its literally the size of a pen.
