Chudrok
Looking for a new spinning rid for bass to use on a boat. Fitting it with a 4000 A tragic. Anyone have any experience with the new Shimao Teramar Heavy rated 1-4oz? Also looking at the Trevala S MH.Thoughts?
TLap21
I use a 7'6" Teramar SE MH (w/ 4k Spheros) from the boat/kayak and I would recommend it. Great rod, especially considering the price. It has replaced my St. Croix Tidemaster as my primary rod for boat/yak duties.
Chudrok
I use a 7'6" Teramar SE MH (w/ 4k Spheros) from the boat/kayak and I would recommend it. Great rod, especially considering the price. It has replaced my St. Croix Tidemaster as my primary rod for boat/yak duties. TLap21, 7'6" Teramar SE MH is rated pretty light. That's enough to handle +30# striped bass? I'm looking at the 7' Teramar NE H rated 1-4oz. Too heavy?
TLap21
I have total confidence that the MH will handle a 30lb striper. It's designed to catch Tarpon and I've caught some decent Blackfish with it as well and it handled it no problem. That said, what version you get depends on how heavy the lures you intend to throw will weigh. I typically throw pencils, bucktails, swim shads, Hurley rubber w/jig heads and SP Minnows from the boat that are all under 2oz, so the MH is enough rod for me. thebigangrybear
The Northeast rods were designed specifically to fish local waters for bluefish and stripers... their are specific blanks designed for different regions I believe. I recently picked up one of the heavy boat rods (TMC-E70H)and I love it. I wanted to fish one and put a few fish on it before doing making up my mind, after a couple of good weekends I just ordered 3 more. These will be replacing Lamiglas Tri-Flex Graphite TFX 7040CT7's... which were bought for almost double the price.
Marc VI
I use the Trevala(with an Avet reel) very good rod for the money, I'm sure the spinning models are just as good.
CaptGull
I use an 8' Inshore MH extra fast action for tarpon in the 40-60 lb range. It's rated 12-25 lb 3/4-2 oz but no trouble at all with 3 oz.
L Train
I love this blank: throws a mile, soft enough tip to work lures properly and puts the pressure to the fish when hooked. I have a Teramar TMS80H with a Stradic FJ6000 with 30 lb. Jerry Brown that has no problem boating mid 30 to low 40 lb. stripers taken on plugs. I also have TMS80XH with an old Saragosa 8000 and a TMS80XXH with a new Saragosa SW10000. I use them exclusively as boat rods, and I would go with all 8 foot length due to the range it provides with no drawbacks that I see. Love them and now have friends hooked on them after seeing them in operation. Had the TMS80H for three years now and it looks like new; good hardware and finish. Good luck
John 58
I have the casting Teramar 7'6" TMC-76H : This is rated for 1/2 oz. to 2 oz. It will toss 3 oz . I've had it about 5 years and it still looks and works great. This rod is solid, it cast well and it will handle large stripers with ease. I'm in the market for a new surf spinning rod myself and this line is high on my list... Good luck!
L Train
Not to blow smoke up Shimano's A, and I am not on their Pro Staff nor do I get any deals from them I have been very impressed with all their recent blanks and finish for the price. I have Tallus light conventionals, the Terarmars previously noted above, and have Terez and Trevala for years. Other than custom surf rods, and a few custom gifted boat salt water rods made by friends, the various recent developed Shimano rods are what are in the racks. Their "C4" blanks do the job for comparatively short money from inshore rods to offshore Tuna jigging rods. (I do wish they put more handle on their 8' SE Teramar spinning rods for you can truly put two handed power into casting them). I think they are the best for the money; and in the last six to seven years I have only had to send one rod back for breakage, and they sent me a new replacement quickly with no questions. Sorry to be bullish for/on them, but I truly could not be more satisfied and blessed with their rods and selection; they make landing good fish a whole lot easier. ps I generally find that all their rod specs. are under rated as to their capacity/what they can handle, and what they can throw. Chudrok
Thanks everyone for the the input on the rod. Looks like it's a all around solid inshore rod. I'll be picking up the Teramar TMSE70H. Thanks guys! Cheers and tight lines.
the loft
I have a Teramar 7' 6" MH , on a Curado 301E. The reel and rod does handle big fish, my reel eat's up line on big fish.
Brooklyn23
I have a white Shimano Terez TZS-69MH-PW, medium/heavy, fast, 40-80 line, 1 piece, in mint condition. The secret to fishing... Fish where the fish are.
scoobydoo
don't know about the teramar but I really like the tallus...only gripe is the hollow plastic fragile gimbal. Same blank makeup as the terez with lower grade components and seemingly softer actions. The 7' heavy is a spectacular all around bass rod. Bends nice and deep with big fish. And still fun to fight shorts. Also no fear in heaving 6oz and half a bunker. Gave it it's first real test the other night on multiple fish between 30 and 50#. The terez rods are great. I've fished a wide variety of them. THe spinners could load a tad easier or a bit further down the blank. THe conventionals make great heavy duty rods. AlwaysWading
I have a Teramar casting Mh and heavy .Either one can handle a Striper, however I would go with the heavy.I also have a Trevala S ,completely different rod, much lighter and smaller, you can jig it all day..For bait fishing I'd go with the Teramar, Trevala S better for jigging .
