heyblue34
I tend to fish around the new moon but had an itch to scratch and went out last night on a 3/4 moon. Between hoofing it and driving the current ORV corridor I covered about seven miles of beach without a bump in the night. Frustrated as I am by getting skunked I picked up a few things from this trip. What do you learn from trips when you get skunked? #

Richard_the_Aughth
To be honest with you, more often than not i get skunked
heyblue34
When and what are you fishing around? I go around the new moon and speifically tatget structure, current, and bait. The latter is the most difficult variable to predict. #

albacized
I fished the salt 4 times this year and I was skunked twice and caught fish twice....if you then add a trip for stripers I took that was actually in a freshwater location, I wasn't skunked in terms of catching nothing - but I didn't catch any stripers, which means I was looking for stripers 5 times, and caught them on two trips
Skitter
You can go when all the factors line up and get skunked. Â You can go when all the factors look horrible by the book and have an exceptional time. Not just at night but a bright sunny day. Â Fish do not read books by sharpies. We do. SkunkLuvver
I fish whenever I can which is rarely when things are ideal. I definitely catch when I probably "shouldn't" and get skunked when I should be catching. Gotta learn to love the skunk.  Didn't HFG catch a 40 sumthin pounder on a super hot august day a little while back? Never got a chance to finish her Italian sub if I remember correctly  Ya never know... and that's why its fun (and frustrating)
albacized
I think one thing you learn as you age is not to take a skunking too personal
Fish Monkey
Yeah its just part of the game. Good days and bad days. Those good days make it worth the frustration. (*member formerly known as ''duntonsdragons)

I didn't know that Italy had a navy, let alone such an amazing feat of engineering as a flying sub.  Thanks for teaching me take being skunked like a trooper HotFish.  The mackerel roundup will begin next week after the east wind blows for a few days, soon to be followed by the lobster roundup.

Nice, but what were the other conditions? Structure, wind, tide (slack, rise, or drop), current, water temp, and baitfish present? #
