Never was a believer in these things, even though I have been told for years by friends that are hardcore outdoorsman(hunters, trappers, backpackers) that they work great.
I've always used DEET, minimum 40%.......sometimes full strength.
Used a couple last weekend while turkey hunting. The Mayflies(tiny blk. flies) were out in full force. It not only kept them off of me, they disappeared.
I have been told they work just as well on mosquitos and no see-ums, although I have not witnessed that yet.
Ingenious little appliance.

Stopped using deet long time ago, since many medical studies have linked it to many ailments, and it should never be used by children, even if diluted.  Thank our GOV for allowing such chemicals to be used, due to industry pressure, even though the medical community has placed warnings on their use.

The best thing to do is use dark dirt or mulch, mix it with water, lemon juice and then coat it on your face, arms,  anything exposed.

But in certain local areas, using such, may result in many people staring at you, but they eventually leave you alone.

What works for me locally is using naturally derived, (like Doterra) essential  oils.  Different mixtures work best for certain type of pests.

Gnats: Patchouli

Mosquitoes: Lavender, Lemongrass

Ants: Peppermint

Aphids: Peppermint, Sandalwood,

Fleas: Lavender, Lemongrass, Peppermint

Flies: Basil, Clove, Eucalyptus, Lavender, Peppermint, Rosemary

Moths: Lavender, Peppermint Plant

Snails: Patchouli,

Ticks: Lavender, Lemongrass, Thyme

Mix these in a glass sprayer recommended, plastic is ok but do not leave under hot sun for long times.

If you want something quick, try mixing lavender and fresh lemon juice water.  Take Vitamin B, B12, and eat garlic.  Also  use listerine.

Slot Limit for Striped Bass; 1 fish 26"-34"

Save the Porgy; Bring Back 10 fish daily limit

After you spread the dark dirt or mulch over your body.

Play a taped continuous version of the theme song from the movie Deliverance.

Then ask any tourists or other fishermen "Where you all from ?"

 Watch them run like hell.

It may not get rid of bugs or ticks-- but it will scare most humans off the beach. :)

Bob I met that guy once on a South Hampton beach.  Was it Mecox or Sag beach ....trying to recall which one...Tiana, I think it was called?

Just kidding!   Please don't send the electric shock rays through my computer.

I'll behave,I promise.

The only thing that has ever worked for me was OFF.

But it actually melted the plastic handle on my TiCA Libra reel.(wish I was kidding, but I am serious)

Then i got the ingenious idea to buy one of those net cover-ups that you wear over your head.

Not too bright--- the damn no -see -ums  all got underneath the net....that was very unpleasant

You will look like a space alien wearing a net like that.
