Shag
Are we talking trolling line or rope like a lead line in a gill net? "Ban Pre-shredded Cheese, Make America Grate Again"
ChasingTales
Hi Shag like a gill nest I want to zip tie it inside around the bottom of the trap
Shag
It's really not that heavy. We used to use sash weights and re-bar zip tied in. I'll take a look in the yard, but I think it got thrown out. There was a washed up piece of net down at cut 2 Smiths Point last fall. ChasingTales
Thanks Shag. Do tackle shops have sash weights or is that at a net supply
Shag
Try a junk yard or old lumber yard, Re- bar at any mason supply or Homies. "Ban Pre-shredded Cheese, Make America Grate Again"
Shag
Chasing Tales, I'm building a few eel pots and have to weigh them down like your crab pots. I'm out in the woodpile side of the yard and I spy a milk crate full of use mooring chain. Heavier then lead core sink rope and made of iron so it doesn't give off anything toxic or repulsive to marine life; I'm going to wire tie a few lengths along the bottom. If you need some I've got plenty. Pete "Ban Pre-shredded Cheese, Make America Grate Again"

Shag
Rich, Believe it or not you get more ballast from metal then cement. Cement's pores make the buoyancy neutral and the only weight is the cement. Stones would be a pain to secure and as you pick up the trap would shift. This doesn't sound like a big deal but when you throw a trap over and it doesn't land the way it is supposed to fish, it makes all the difference between something or nothing in the trap.
