I will be in Nags Head Sept. 21-26.  Sounds like Nags Head Pier is great place to go.  Is there really the chance of hooking billfish in general at right time of year?

Slim to none. Pretty good sharking and cobia action at night, most of the catching done by locals off the tips and by floating baits out. I go out there at night just to watch them.

I have seen a Sailfish caught on the end of Avalon pier on a Got-cha. It was about 10 inches long.

If being stupid got us into this mess, how come being stupid can't get us out?
I don't want to behave improperly, so I just won't behave at all.

Can anybody tell me how old this rod is

Bennie,

I think you posted that in the wrong forum, but it is what it is . . .

Since the label is unreadable, I would say it is from the late 1960's to very early 1980's. It appears to have either ALLAN or MILDRUM guides and the Reel Seat looks like a LAKELAND or a VARMAC, which would be appropriate for the time-frame.

Are certain species listed on one side of the pier and not the other for a reason? I ask this because I've been told that certain fish travel through the pilings certain times of year, and around the pier other times of the year and I'm not sure of its validity...
