The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reported early Tuesday night that one of its workers was assaulted along the Cape Cod Canal at the Bell Road service area, Bourne village.

Sgt. Jim Czyryca, along with Officers Thomas Spillane and Theodore Economides, responded to the call and arrested a Monument Beach man. Ryan C. Carrier faces a charge of assault and battery on a person over the age of 60.

Let's hope this is nothing more than an isolated incident, and not a pattern.:(

Right. I am rarely there in daylight hrs, but I haven't heard of many incidents there this season.

Odd, b/c the place has been so quiet this summer. Almost none of the shenanigans compared previous years.
I pulled in there late the other night on the way home from fishing to write in my fishing log, and turned on the Sox. There wasn't another soul there. I fell asleep for well over an hour.
More than likely there will be an increased police/ACOE presence from here on out.

I have to say I've never had a problem or seen anything remotely aggressive, other than the random idiot screaming for no reason. I do keep a razor sharp knife on my plug bag well displayed, so maybe that buys me a bit of security.

There are crazy people out there for sure, but how crazy would you be to target somebody who's idea of fun is to climb over nasty rocks in all sorts of weather in the deep of the night?

In decades of fishing the Canal at night, I've never been physically threatened or attacked anywhere. However, I've been "watched" (mostly by deer and minks ;)) and, rarely, subjected to verbal abuse. But there just aren't that many people who fish or even walk/jog/bike the Canal anymore in the dead of night.

And we LOVE to toss around sharp pointy objects and play with animals with sharp teeth (bloos)!!!

Yeah, that wouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure that we are not to be screwed with, more so on a bad night of fishing!!!

The victim was probably the guy cleaning the rest room, being over 60. Guy and his wife always stop to hand out doggie treats to every dog they run into. I'll bet the perp was either smoking weed or doing some other drugs in the men's room and was caught by the cleaner.

DJ's prediction was scary it was so accurate.

In the end, this was a non event. Two loud mouthed hot heads mouthing off, and one got poked in the nose.

Man you guys need to learn the truth about a story before you start creating your own stories on what happened, I know both of them involved and know the TRUTH about what happened, the "victim" went way over the line that day and unfortunately ryan for some reason got in trouble. But whatever, in the end the "victim" dropped everything and even said he went to far. Even the cops were on Ryan's side but they had to what they had to do by law. And no he wasn't smoking weed in the bathroom, it was a simple bike ride with his kids that turned into what it did. Get your stories straight!!!

Nicebass, I have known the true story all along as well. There isn't a person on this site that wouldn't do what Ryan did if their child were invoved...

Random...

When we judge or criticize another person, it says nothing about that person;
it merely says something about our own need to be critical.

Absolutely capie01, as a parent it is your job to protect you kid and that's exactly what ryan did, for what the sweet nice people who hand out dog treats Did...lets just say there not as innocent as everyone thinks they are, he's lucky ryan didn't toss him in the canal that day. It was nice to see so many people supporting ryan after the incident, he had character witnesses lined down the canal road, he gets along with everyone. Btw capie01 what's your first name, I probably know you?
