I'm a little hesitant to buy gear off amazon. I'm looking to buy the penn battle reel and amazon offers the lowest price. Is there any risk in quality so-to-speak as opposed to buying gear from cabela's or bass pro? I realize they're all made in the same place but the products ship from random places and you never know what may happen. Anything you add is appreciated.

Amazon is pretty reliable but for fishing it has the same quality as a department store except the have good brands as long as you could get it off amazon I would trust the shipment

I agree I would like to support local bait & tackle shops but sometimes they kill you with prices, but that being said I try my best

I would not worry about Amazon shipping the product you order. I bought from them ton of stuff and never had an issue with timely delivery and quality. I regard to support your local tackle shop. Don't support those shops who sell rotten clams and old bunkers...f$ them. On the other hand there are good tackle shops with integrity...support them if their price are reasonable and within a reasonable margin from the price of the product in Amazon....

I have bought a bunch of things from Amazon....There are actual stores associated with amazon that sell/ship the product. They usually tell you what store the product is coming from. ..sometimes not but I never had a problem.

I have bought things from amazon with great luck... But you should consider maybe spending an extra few bucks on the reel at your local B&T. I understand sometimes there's a budget and you have to do what you have to do. But I feel as tho by helping out the mom and pop shops we will have them around longer since there's not to many left.

If you're worried about quality, check that it "ships from and is sold by amazon.com". Many times they are sold by random sellers on amazon. I have bought dozens of things there, and so far so good.

Pretty sure Amazon has a 100% guarantee regardless of the seller.

I had a 50' flat screen disappear off of my porch and Amazon sent another one same day. No questions asked.

I have used Amazon for fishing gear and gotten some great prices when times were tight and the moms and pops are higher. I also try to use independent shops when possible.

Amazon is the greatest thing ever .. Especially if you are a Prime member. Prime is $80 a year and you can share it with family members. Anything prime ships for FREE and with 2 day delivery. It is friggen fantastic.

As far as worrying about the sellers on there ... Most have reviews you can read. The ones without ... Stay away from. Not that they are automatically bad ... Just untested.

If the item is new, I wouldn't worry about it. Penn would take care of any quality issues.

My wife is an amazon addict. Hundreds of purchases ... Never a problem. Like you I was hesitant to use them for fishing gear at first. I am a bass pro shops guys for the most part, but more than that ... I am cheap. :)
