Been out of the loop of surf fishing for almost 3 yrs, kids in sports, and want to get back in! Can anyone help with access to "the Rip" at the tip of Sandy Hook. Are you able to walk out the trail to get to the rip and then fish out there? Also, how about fishing North Beach? All your help is greatly appreciated!!
Thanks!!

mets41 the hook is a big PITA right now.  Large portions of the beaches are closed due to plovers nesting.  The rip is completely closed off.  North beach is only partially open.  Bay side is fully open.  You might need to find a different spot if you are looking for more access.

In the past they have given you a path to the water line at N Beach. No more. It is CLOSED. Found out last night by getting clothes lined by the rope. Fisherman's trail and points west are open, though the walk gets longer for me each trip it seems.

Sorry, but you are getting some wrong info. If you walk out to the end of the fishermans trail and make a left, THAT is the true RIP. And, it is open. If you go to the rightt, that is the False Hook, which is closed. The false hook is at the end of north beach. Over the years, the false hook has become more of a rip. But, the rip is the rip and the false hook is the false hook. Guess it's just who you ask.

I started going out to the "Rip" to the left at end of trail back in the mid 80's. Showing my age! No lie, sometimes was 50 guys crunched together. It was crazy! Have fished all over SH last 30 yrs! Glad to see it is open! How long will they keep North Beach closed?

Now I say true rip and false rip and it's easier :D.

This is exactly true. Funny thing is that there is no real rip at "the rip" and hasn't been for years. Now the false hook is so sanded in there is hardly any rip there, either. Probably should ditch both terms and just call it NE and NW tip of Sandy Hook.

Sorry to disagree......depends on the wind direction that causes the surface RIP......have been through there in the boat every time we go out....sometimes it's calm other times you can't get out....in November, December....also... the rip is the current flow beneath the surface......it's there.
