Dave A,
How about a PENN  113H Senator HIGH SPEED. I can get one from my buddy for $50.00   I'm thiking that on a Trevala tvc66-mh or a Ugly stick BWB 1140.

Not the best choice but it can work.

The 113H only has a 3.3:1 gear ratio so you will be reeling for a while. The reel will get you by but by the end of the trip you will be thinking about your next tilefish reel. As for the rod choices, I personally would pass on both. The TVC66mh is simply too light for tilefishing and the ugly stik is light. A better choice would be the BWB 1120-8' Ugly Stik.

My arms tremble thinking about a 113 in 700 feet of water. I would save up a little more money and get some that would be less stressful..

I did a little surfing on the net today. Looks like I can get new stainless steel gears 4.0 to 1 for the reel. How much difference will that make. Worth the money or not?

You are thinking a little too much about which reel is the best. Most that mention on there 'will' work for tile fishing.

Rather if it's a $50 Penn or a $500 2-speed whatever, it WILL work.

I've settle on cheap and reliable these days which is Dawia Saltist 40 and 50. Right now I own one 30H for cod fishing, two 40 and one 50 for tile fishing.

Get 2 of cheaper ones and one for backup in case line breaks or something .

John, those reels aren't cheap and you have spent good money on them. The lower geared Saltist work great and a lot of other guys use them as well.
