Hey guys I'm interested in fishing the quabbin reservoir this summer and I see that inflatable boats aren't allowed (which is what I fish from). I understand that they have boat rentals for fairly cheap, the only thing is I can't seem to find exactly what kind of boat they offer for rental. Are these canoes, kayaks? Any help would be much appreciated!

I believe they're 14' Sylvan aluminum boats with either 6 or 8 HP motors. You also can rent canoes and kayaks at a couple of the gates.

That would be about right. If you're going on the weekend you'd better get there early as there's usually a line, and the line is longer on the better fishing side of course.;)

If you're gonna be doing the warm water thing (largemouth, pickerel, perch, etc) I recommend gates 43/45. If you're after the cold water critters gate 8 is a good bet. Any one you pick will be tons of fun. Go on a weekday morning and you'll have the place to your self (mostly). Whether you catch or not, its a great way to spend the day.

can you bring your own kayak?
if so, do they require it to be sanitized?

Nope, private kayaks not allowed. Private motor boats must be sanitized ($40) and then can be sealed so as long as you don't launch the boat anywhere else you're good for following trips. They won't sanitize if your trailer has carpet on it. You also have the option of the winter quarantine program where you can get sealed in Nov or Dec for free. Carpeting is allowed on your trailer in this case.

Ya dont bother going on the weekend, its just not worth it during the week is quiet, no problem getting a boat. And if you go after small mouths early in the season....two words.. Shaky Head.

Beautiful way to spend a day on the water. Sometimes we'll go rent on int he afternoon just to ride around.
