That's right. Only a few months to gather money. October and November and part of December. Then it needs to go to our Santa, or Santas, depending on the amount of money we bring in.

We are still going to be helping Mrs. Biggene's neighbor out. Yes, we just finished furnishing their home. To thank us for that, they will be donating their first spare 20 or 30 dollars to The Christmas Fund to help us out. We'll give that back to them in a car Christmas Day. In the meantime, they have no idea that there is more in store.

Also, last year's Christmas Family Mom knows Mrs Biggene and when she found out, she got really excited and is dying to help pay it forward. She doesn't have a lot of money to donate, but she's going to help spy and figure out what the mom and kid want and need, and she's going to help mrs. biggene shop, wrap, deliver, all that good stuff. I'm truly excited to see it being paid forward.

A couple questions for you guys... which gaming system is going to be the best one for 10 year old boy. It would have to be a console that has games available that aren't all rated R or whhatever. The choices I think are a PS3, an XBox 360 or a Wii. Your input would be greatly appreciated, along with suggestions for say 2 starter games.

Second thing, what size rod would be a good rod for a 10 year old? We don't need to buy a 400 dollar Lami, but we'd like to buy a decent blank for the kid, the guides and stuff and see if we can't get one of our local rod builders to wrap this kid a custom rod. I've asked Billy40, if he declines, I'll be asking others.

We'll also want to buy the kid a tackle box and I'm hoping that some of you who can't give money to the cause could instead help fill this kid's tackle box with the things he'll need. I know some of us are money broke and plug rich and always want to donate, so this would be a good chance for you!

We'll pick him up a few small things too... and for the Mom, I think we're looking at a dryer.

If we raise more money than that, we'll find another family in need. That's just the way it goes. We haven't done only one family in a while now and that's pretty awesome. Timmy has pledged the $250 dollars to do the dinner that my Mom and I did for the students at the place I worked until a month or so ago. Just because I don't work there any more doesn't make those people any less needy. They show up every day and they are slowly turning their lives around. That's not an easy thing to do when you are battling an addiction and/or mental illness.

So as I was saying... should we go over what it takes to buy the things listed above, we'll find another family. Already have one in mind.

So with that... I am going to start to ask for donations. As with past Christmas Family Funds, I do not run an auction. If someone else like Mighty Mouse or anyone else wants to step up and run one, they can post a seperate thread. I have always just taken cash donations in the past.

We started this out with one family, and for the past two years and hopefully this year as well, we've raised enough money for a few families and dinner and stuff every year.

We have a lot of members. We do not ask every member for an incredible amount of money. Five dollars from each member would go a LONG LONG way. I ask that you give what you can give. You can send me a check or a money order at

Tammy Wilson
1139 Hyatt Creek Road
Bryson City, NC 28713

or by paypal at twilson3474@gmail.com

In the past, during football season, our sportehs have made small bets on games with the loser paying the Christmas Family Fund... which is always fun.

Some people will sell stuff in the BST and donate the money they get for it to the Christmas Family Fund. This has ALWAYS been a voluntary cash run fundraiser. And like I said, if all you can send is 5 dollars, it helps. Immensely. A lot of people each sending 5 dollars each adds up.

Let's discuss the rod size and let's discuss the gaming system and then let's get the money to buy that stuff.. and find a volunteer to wrap the rod.

I'm going to ask that any donations made to fill the tackle box be made to mrs. biggene and sent to her. Once everything is in, she'll have the monies from the paypal fun allotted to the family up there she is playing Santa for and will know what size box to get!

So there it is....

It's time to begin...

I love you guys... you make Christmas the most awesome part of the year for me and so many others here who feel that this is the best part of Christmas.

This is not my technical opinion: I voted for the PlayStation.

This question was put to an 11yr.old boy whose belief was that the PS has better games.

This kid is all boy and likes all sports. I know the Jets is his favorite football team. Mets for baseball.
Mom is also a Jets fan ( we won't hold it against her lol)

My Kacey has babysat for him a couple of times. I will put her on the game system debate and preferable game choices he might like. I'll see if she can get 4-5 choices and then you guys can pick which ones.

Are we still going with the rod and tackle aspect as well? If so, what kind of fishing does he like to do? The reason I ask is that if he's into fishing the surf and jetties, a "tackle box" may not be the best, most portable and convenient option for him... what about a decent sized, mid range plug bag and some "starter sets" of a variety of plugs and lures?

yes, we are exploring all those options... a plug bag.
but we'd like it to be able to hold more than just plugs. he will probably be doing some bait fishing too.

This is mainly salt water fishing. Raritan Bay and ocean. We have fluke , flounder, weakfish, black sea bass, drum, oh and something called striped bass wink.gif

You can send it to

Jeanine Amato
32 Hart St
W. Keansburg, NJ 07734

Once it's all together, depending on which we have more of, I'll donate either a tackle box or plug bag to put it in.

Not trying to throw a wrinkle into this thing....should we be looking at more of a surf thing, or a boat thing here? If I go with a 9' spin rod that eliminates it from being used on a boat. If I make a 7, 7'6 or 8' spin rod, it will be much more versatile in teh even they choose to do both boat/surf.
