Sorry for the amateur question.... And yes i did try searching before i asked this...

Im new to lures, i usually stick to a high low or fish finder with bait. I just bought some super strike littleneck's and i was wondering the best way to rig them. Right now i have about 3 feet of 60# mono tied right to the lure, with a loop on the other end of the mono. At the end of the main line i have a swivel and a clip and i clip through the loop on the mono. Is this the right way to do this? Ive search this forum and Google and haven't had any luck. Does anyone have a picture? Any help/advice would be great.

Thanks,

Not the set up most would recommend.

Here is what a good many surfcasters use:
Main line to a swivel, using palomar knot. Leader to swivel using improved clinch knot. Leader to plug; you could tie direct to plug or use a clip such as a TA or breakaway.
A good many of us have sworn off snaps and now use the clips I mentioned.

Lots of other variations and pics if you do a search here on tying leaders.

What I have is the following:

Braid from reel --> Alberto knot (or similar) --> 3' -4' 50 lb. mono --> Improved clinch knot -->125 lb. TA clip

Then I just snap my plugs onto the clip.

I think you have more then one option. i can tell you mine, main line to tsunami strong swivel (150lb) I think (they are tiny), 50lb mono leader to Tactical Anglers clip. Palmar knots all around, and have not had a problem yet. Easy on and off to change plugs in the dark. I am sure 20 more people can post there preferences, including tying direct.

[Seldom is my line of thinking wrong when it comes to my own opinions]

This is what I do, but I add a dropper loop near the swivel in case I want to add a teaser.

The main reason I don't use a swivel between my main line and leader is because I usually wind up reeling it into the tip of the rod, so I just tie them directly together. It's harder to do out on a rock or jetty or even on the beach in the dark, but when I am fishing close to my truck and I snap my line for some reason (which happens more than I would like to admit), I just walk up to the truck and tie a new leader on.

:D

Is there any reason there is more preference to using a swivel over tying your leader directly to your main line?

I like a swivel because a uni to uni or an alberto knot(albright) seems to fail for me. bob try this if yu keep hitting the swivel, tie a simple overhand knot in your line around 20 feet away from the swivel, you'll feel the bump and it will warn you when the swivel is near...... you won't lose any casting distance..

But you will compromise the line's integrity. Seems to me that if you are paying close enough attention to feel the bump from your overhand knot, then you should be able to feel the changes as your lure gets close to you.

I like the swivel as opposed to joining mono to to braid with knot. I seem to get more line twist without the swivel.

YEAH i would never put a knot in the line emgred is dead on.... and yes i have noticed when i used mono that it would twist up .. i had a conventional reel when i was 15 i used to use from the beach and the shock leader was direct i ran to the beach and forgot leaders to tied direct. hit a huge blue and after i landed it it was that lines last cast....
