Backyard yak rack

That's nice! I'm looking at build about the same thing here. I think I will put a little roof over mine.

 

I may have to retro fit a roof for mine, I've been storing mine in my brothers barn in the winter but he's in the process of selling his home. Post a pic when you finish!

Make sure you build it tall enough, I've found that its real easy to step under and easily lift and carry to load and unload from the rack to the car and car to the rack. No bending and lifting!

Hadn't thought of that. I will make sure it's tall so the lifting wont be needed.

This is one I use. I found it up on http://****gear.com/baittubehowto.aspx. What I like about it, it's portable. Its good if you have one yak and/or if you want to do some maintenance or modifications on your kayak.

1 1/4" PVC Pipe: 4 pieces 36" long and 4 pieces 32" long

 

8 - 1 1/4'" PVC Right Angles

 

2 - 1/4" x 4 1/4" Stainless Steel bolts

 

2 - 1/4" Stainless Steel washers

 

2 - 1/4" Stainless Steel Nylon Lock Nuts

 

12 - #6 x 1/2" Phillip Pan Screws(hardware set g)

 

2 - 2" wide x 34" long nylon strap material (webbing)

I made one of those a year ago. They are great when rigging a yak too. Puts it at the right height and it's stable.
