I was looking around on the internet and came across what seems to be a new Airwave rod. The "elite" now comes with K series alconites vs hardloys/pac-bays from standard airwaves in 9'3", 10', and 11'4". What I'm wondering is, are they using the same blanks as the old airwaves?

Don't know how long these have been available, but has anyone given these a shot? I think they are priced a little higher than previous models (likely reflecting the alconite guides). They also added "blue water" models to their elite lineup...8'6" in 2 diff ratings. I always though highly of their airwaves as good entry-level, budget-conscious surf rods. Wonder if these are up to the task...

They look nice but if the ratings are accurate they are too heavy for plugging.

I handled a 10 footer at a local B&T shop. While slightly stiffer than the original AW ( and i do mean slightly), it was definitely plug worthy. At $159 as opposed to the original 10 sitting next to it for $137, I felt it was a great deal with the fuji K frames.

did you have the 2-4 or the 3-6 model? If it was the 3-6, 4 and bait is still pushing the limits unless you lob the cast

were the old ones ever accurate? I have and still use an 8' for spring/late fall and like it, but there's no way it can throw more than 2 ounces...
but I don't really need to at that time of the year. I was hoping the "new airwave" was going to come out sooner. Tough competition for this stick with the mojo around...

My 10' ft 2-4oz broke right in half on a cast. I was casting a gibbs 1oz pencil popper (and no the line did not get tangled around the tip because I checked) I am not a big fan of there blanks.

yeah....it was the 3-6 model. if it cannot handle 4 n bait then they need to change those ratings. i loved the feel of the rod and it was super light but im done with tsunami rods. i had a buddy that bought the inshore model rated xh up to 3oz and he snapped the rod after like the 5th cast. he was using a 2oz bucktail w/ a bkd. brand new rod too!

I can't say a bad thing about the 3 to 6 Airwave.

Dozens of fish at the CCCanal to the mid 30# range in heavy current with a very tight drag....never missed a beat.

Regularly threw up to a 4 oz head with a sluggo or Ronz so a little over 5 oz....as far as I could.

I still keep it in the truck in case one of my "Good Rods" breaks.

It was an Airwave. I had two of them, one which I sold a month ago and one that was collecting dust in the basement and thought I give it a try.

The Trophy was horrible! :D I never had a problem with my Airwave though, I caught a few big stripers on it this spring never gave me a problem.

Anyone used the AirWave Elite series yet? I did a search on the forums and couldn't find anything. I'm hoping someone has used the 11'4" AirWave Elite model TSAWESS-1142 XH. I might just bite on buying it, but if anyone has any experience using specifically the elite series, please provide some feedback.
