Best motors out there in my opinion..... I love how you winterize it with just a push of a button also. A nice feature when you live in Rhode Island...............

I'm looking to repower my 17ft aluminum tracker with an Evinrude ETEC 60HP. Does anybody have any input on these motors?

The details on the motor I'm looking at: 1997 ETEC 60HP.

Anything I should know about when taking a look at this motor? It is used, but the dealer says "runs great"

Any and all input would be great!

Things I'm asking about:

Hours on the motor
Motor model number (for recalls)
Compression

What am I missing?

I would demand at least a year warranty in writing from him. If he wont give you that then there is a reason he is afraid to back up his verbal guarantee that the motor is solid. How much is he asking for it?

The best motor out there is the Suzuki 4 stroke. However the etecs have been good in the smaller horse power. They have not been so great in the larger horsepower. I know two guys right now whos boats are out of commision because of blown powerheads on etecs still under warranty.

We have a 60 HP ETEC on an 18 ft Starcraft. Its a 2008 and the motor is excellent. Performs well, sips gas, reliable. But, it was new out of the box, now has less than 100 hrs on it. It all comes down to price. Depends on what the dealer wants for the m0tor and the amount of risk versus cost. 700 hours sounds like a well used engine, but like some cars I've owned, highway miles and 150,000 miles, no problem. You never know. And don't believe any thing the dealer tells you except the printout.

Hey guys, maybe this has been said, or not, don't know.

The guy is looking at a 1997 e-tec. Etec's were not introduced until 2004 or 2005. I can guarantee this motor is NOT an e-tec. 97, if an evinrude, could easily be a FICHT motor, although not sure if they were out in 97. If they were, that is the very first year, and as a GENERALIZATION, a horrible motor. If it is an Oceanrunner(carb'd 2-stroke), then it is a very strong, yet very thirsty motor.

EDIT:>>>>>> Nevermind, I'm a dope, and went back, and saw the correction. 2007 E-tec. OK.
