Are you asking about the round Black Max reels or the low-profile Black max reels? I have a few round black max reels dating back to the 90's in the 6600W size. They have held up well, and I have used them for just about everything. There are now newer, better models from other manufacturers for solid frame round baitcasters, but I still like the old Black Max reels.

I ate one anchovy, and that is why I did not eat two anchovies.

Not a bad reel. They had the disengaging level wind. Not a feature I liked, but a nice casting reel though.:)

Thanks I used it today its the low profile baitcaster its meant for 12lb mono, not quite feeling it probably better from a boat than shore, maybe a crankbait reel.

The larger models don't disengage. Only the smaller (3600) one that i own disengages ths levelwind on freespool.

My first reel was a low profile black max and I learned angling/casting on it. I was using it on a 6'6" cabela pro guide rod and filled 50# power pro 150yards to use with and there were plenty of birds nest initially. After a while using it and birds nest and cutting line, I guess now I have around 100 yards or a little more of line left and it works fine without any birds nest. I guess, when I started learning I was using the wrong weighted lures/spinners and line was a little too much. I like it and have caught carp, snake heads and cat fishes with it. But nothing huge all were around 500g to 3 kg.
