It's pretty fluid, usually within one rotation of the spool the line is picked up. Which means there is enough slack in the line to where that's not a problem. However, if your slow, the fish might take too much line and spit the hook.

I typically only fish bailess, and it seemed odd at first. But now I can't believe I didn't start doing it sooner.

So the manual pickup is actually an automatic pickup?  You just reel and it catches on the roller?

You guys make simple things so difficult that I wonder what you'd do with something that actually is difficult.

Should we start an "Analyzing the Talmud" thread?

hook the line with your index finger, pull it up to the rod while cranking and it will catch the roller under tension. no lagerheads :th:

With a flick of a finger.

I like to stop the lure right before it hits the water and start reeling, it seemed difficult with manual pickup. Maybe the reel handle wasn't in the right position.

It's not too difficult, you just may add some extra wear and tear on your finger if you use braid.

If it's the same reel as mitchel, I'd rather have a bail.
