I wonder how many fish out of Orleans and go out of nauset inlet.
I got tied up this morning and tried to check on my boat in Chatham. I Would have had to park in west chat ham and walk.Couldn't get any closer. I think the stuff might be hitting the fan pretty soon.Cars and trailers all the way to west Chatham.
Lets see Pay taxes, pay mooring fees we won't list insurance, excise tax, community preservation tax,low income housing tax,o ya a sticker to park at the shore that i can't get to. I might just as well fish the canal.
I,m not pissed at those that are smart enough to take advantage ,i,m pissed at the selectmen and woman that have no idea what is going on once they get away from the down town shop merchants

mr. oldgoat...i personally witnessed that disgrace just a few minutes ago. from ryders cove, i counted over 30 vehicles parked all the way down old comers, through the 4 way stop and all the way up to the old queen anne spilt. i find it hard to believe that the neighbors didn't make a stink about this. also, did i mention this was at 4pm! i wonder how many more vehicles were parked there at noontime? not one ticket was seen on any windshield...

The trailers went about 3/4 of a mile down Old Comers today. You more or less had to be there around 4am to be reasonably close to the lot or you were in for quite a walk.

Nasuet is a wild inlet. If you launch by goose hummock its a 3 mi ride to the inlet. The channel is poorly marked and criss-crosses accross the river. At low tide much of the river is only 2 ft deep. Many GPS/Maps have the inlet in the old location further south...follow the current. Then you launch through breakers in the surf. Its a cool place but I almost ate in my boat the first time I launched out of there.

Mabye I misread this topic. But to me it seems this is how we lose access to our fishing grounds. I use too fish a well known spot and people started to complain and now I have to take a 2 mile walk. Just remember I pay taxes too and should have the right to fish the coast line. So if you want a spot all to yourself then ask your selectmen to create a new country.

we're talking about a boat ramp with limited access. if the town fathers wish to allow parking all down the road, then that is fine. i just think it's nuts.

Old Goat, the tidal of your Thread brought back memories...
Got my first Cape Keeper there in around 89...90 .
Had my white bucket, department store combo and a few eels, Huffed it down from the C Guard station at midnight and caught him at first light...38".
I remember seeing articles in the paper about how dangerous the Inlet was that year...warning boaters...maybe it was even closed for a time ... maybe you remember.
Sorry for the hijack, just one of those things you never forget. Not good with dates but I remember every second of the fight from the hookup to sliding him on the beach.

The people on Old Comers are on the town right now about the situation and they're looking into making it a Resident/taxpayer only ramp because of the trailers and there have been afew "confrontations" at o'dark thirty and waking the neighbors.Next year the bass will be somewhere else[like thePamet was last year] so the ramp will most likely be back to normal. If this happens the only deep water ramp on the east side will be gone.

As I understand it, the waterways comm. has voted to restrict and forwarded it to the selectmen. This would suck. http://chathamcapeco...ory.com/ <br />

The boat ramp behind goose hummock shop is nice. It will get you to the inlet. I have been in there many times and gone out the inlet twice, once on Capt. Bill's boat and once on mine.
Nauset inlet is not far from town cove and a nice way to get out east for tuna. You can fish for stripers without leaving the inlet. The bigger ones are out in the atlantic, but sometimes come in. The channel to get out is not marked well. last year, I spent time marking waypoints on my gps to get out through the deepest water. It can get shallow. I only draft about 18-24" and I would not attempt it at low. You have to jump some breakers at the mouth to get out in the ocean. It can be hairy.
