Heading down to Ft. Lauderdale.....Hallandale to be exact....next week. Was wondering what's biting in the surf or ICW now? Last year didn't do any shore fishing, but went to John Lloyd Park and there seemed like there could be opportunities in the morning before the beachgoers get there. Any recs?

Obviously, I'm not a regular down there as you know where I like to fish But I fished there a few times in March, April and June...from shore, spots are slim pickings (mostly due to private property). But there are some areas, most obviously piers (I've fished off the pier near Lauderdale-By-The-Sea - I think it's called Angler's Pier). There's also a little area off the A1A intercoastal near Hillsboro inlet...I've caught snook there on a number of occasions. As far as the pier is concerned - I've caught barracuda, an assortment of jacks and needlefish (actually their larger relative - houndfish).

As an aside - for cheap money (something like $20), you can take a party boat out and catch king mackerel, false albacore and few other gamefish. They basically target bottom fish, but you can adjust your rigging and catch a good number of these gamefish.

ICW - nothing. In the surf, you're likely to find Snook, Tarpon and Jacks. Soak a sandflea or two and you may find a late season Pompano (yum).

Try a yozuri parallel to the shoreline at dawn...

I'm there now. Saw some huge tarpon right along the dock today. That was in the ICW.

Albacized, you were the last person I expected to respond in this post!
Yo zuri's in the surf sounds good, did a lot of that in the USVI's while I was there. Fun stuff.
