You'll never guess what I caught today: The giant hammerhead shark hauled from the deep

A group of fishermen were delighted when they caught a shark in the warm waters off Australia's east coast.

So imagine their surprise when there was a bigger tug and they realised their catch was being swallowed by an even bigger fish.

This giant, weighing one and a quarter tonnes and measuring 20ft long, was caught off the north coast of New South Wales and is thought to be at least 40 years old.

What a bruiser! I think the photog played a game with the focal length to make that mouth look so gigantic, but it's still one hell of a fish.

Why would you park a 20 foot hammerhead in the garage? .

The article I just read said it was 5 meters which is slightly over 16'. Still bigger then Bucky's but not 20'.

Seems that different articles give different lengths. Still wonder what that is that Mr. Hislop has his hand on.

Yes, articles say both 5M and 20 foot, I went with the bigger number because of the pic. It's probably a 16 footer.

I never will understand the mentality of wanting to kill a big shark like that.

Certainly nobody on this fishing forum gets excited over catching and keeping a really, really big fish.
