I am new to Striped Bass Fishing in NJ, started late last year.. I fish on Long Beach Island.

Can anyone tell me when the Stripers start coming back up the coast and arrive in the NJ area ? I missed the early season last year and don;t want to miss it again

Thanks

If you sit behind your computer waiting for someone to post a report you will miss it again this year.

March 1st if you can handle the weather.

Im not sure why everyone believes March weather is 'soooo bad' . In my opinion, its not much dif. than the December weather we all subject ourselves to.

Early can be tough but guys do it and catch fish. Lotta bait slinging in the bays. I'm bugging out at this point. I'll probably try to make a trip in the middle of March.

I start plugging the beaches out front again in April....but thats just me.. For out back, the season opens March 1st, but thats bait and wait fishing... I'll do it, but I much rather be plugging.
Hey kid, are you going my way? Hop in, we'll have ourselves a field day. We'll find us some striped bass... lay low, watch the universe expand.

You can't catch squat if your not out there fishing.

earliest legal (+28") striper i ever caught was 3/16 on a jig.
and i agree with Randybunka, march is just like december in weather but since most of us have been sitting on our a$$es all winter it takes a couple weeks to get acclimated.

My season out front usually begins when I see the trucks start racing by, pencil poppers already rigged, cell phones in hand, cigarettes being flicked out the windows ....there's just no discreetness anymore

Usually I have been catching them in the back for a month prior in complete seclusion.
