Front storm door is an Emco Forever, about 10-12 years old, maybe 13. Hideable screen/storm window type, crossbuck design.

Was sitting here Saturday with the front door open, and I suddenly hear a big bang about 3 feet from me, and almost jumped out of my seat. Seems the plastic spring loaded window cam/latch just decided to give way, and the window crashed down into the pocket. (Fortunately the glass didn't break.)

Today I called up EMCO to get a replacement latch. Was told that that part of the door is only warrantied for 1 year (despite the lifetime warranty on the door), and it would be $10.61 for the part and shipping (you get all four latches in a kit, they don't sell them individually.)

Now, $11 ain't no big deal, but so much for the "lifetime warranty".....

I was worried that the part might not even be available, and had already kinda figured out how to make a replacement. But would prefer the original....

Well, other than the broken storm window cam/latch after 12-13 years, I have no complaints.......it is a bit shabby and I would like to repaint it (if possible? In fact, would like some input on that), as standard cleaning just ain't cutting it anymore, but other than that, everything is fine with it.

Well their 400 series replacements windows are the first I've installed without a sill expander or adjustment option.... 24 windows and the sills were not all the same.... They offer 0, 8, and 14 degree options only. Customer service was of no help, so we had to get creative and ate a few hours to get the finish looking right.

I have the full glass Emco Forever door in my main entry. The door is about 15 years old. It still finctions perfectly. The only problem is the sun has killed the phony "brass" plating on the hardware.

Went to see the whatfixer.
