King Mackerel and Wahoo -
Are these fish the same animal or are they just cousins?

Very different fish, both in the mackerel family though.

Close cousins but different fish. Both great on the plate, too Same general shape and kings can get to about the same size as medium wahoo.
Easiest way to tell them apart is that the king has sort of a zig-zaggy lateral line. 'Hoos usually have vertical bars on the side.

Thanks - we got two wahoo a couple of weeks back at "the horns" south of montauk - one was 5-1/2 feet long and about 65 lbs and the other was 4 foot and about 40 lbs.
I agree - I have a new favorite grilling fish!
Thanks for the info guys
