Yes. Porgy season opened June 12. I don't know about the south shore but porgy fishing on the North Shore is hot right now. Check out this link to NYS DEC for the current regs. Good luck.

God luck getting them in FI inlet.
I never found a spot there that was really productive for them.
I have a few places where I can produce a few, but not in any big numbers, and not in the inlet area.
Proud to be a NERB and I have the shirts to prove it!!

Regs are a little different depending on a party/charter or not:

Scup (Porgy)
Anglers aboard licensed party/charter boats 11" (size) 10 (number of fish)
45*** (yes, apparently 45 fish after Sept 1!) June 12 - Aug 31
Sept 1 - Oct 15***

Scup (Porgy)
All other anglers
10.5 (size) 10 (number od fish) May 24 - Sept 26

Agreed, not really worth trying for them in such an crappy area. I mean I grew up in the area and don't remember ever trying or seeing anyone try to catch them. NorthShore and the ends of long island are the way to go.

They have been biting like crazy on clams in the Wantagh area.

We are having a fantastic year so far fishing wise and other wise really!
