How to get rid of trout slime coat?

I fish up in Warren County NJ (Stephens State Park). This is my first year fishing trout. I noticed that they have a very slimy coat. How do I wash it off. I rinse repeatedly and it doesn't seem to go away.

Fish are kept live in water till I get home. Cleaned right away when I get home.

For now (3 fish), I've simply coated them in some olive oil, spices, fresh herbs and grilled them. They did taste good so the slime coat didn't seem to impact any.

Just curious if I'm doing something wrong.

Soak them 15mins in Mountain Dew, then rinse.

Good evening.
Easy question, comes with an easy answer.

With all fish, be they saltwater or fresh, wipe down everthing with vingar.

All smell and slime gone in one easy wipe.

Vinegar works well...i have soaked them in it which leaves a sweet flavor especially if you like vinegar. Not sure if wiping them with a vinegar soaked paper towel will do the trick.

Is the water source polluted? I've eaten close to a thousand trout in my lifetime, usually brookies but also browns and rainbows, and have never removed the slime coat. Occasionally if some vegetation is adhering to fish, I will wash/pick that off, but the slime coat is perfectly fine to eat if it comes from good water. And if the water is that polluted, I wouldn't be fishing it anyway. When you cook the fish by frying or steaming, anything that is harmful is killed. If you fry the fish, and like a light breading on it, the slime helps hold the flour or cornmeal (I seldom bread them)

When I grill, I usually make a thick slurry of spices, herbs, and olive oil. I find that the slime coat prevents the marinade from adhering properly.

The water is not dirty as far as I know (Musconetcong River in Warren count).

I just run a knife down their sides as if I'm scaleing and rinse. Don't know why, just how I do it. Ps I usually fry or smoke mine.
