  1. How to Tie Braided Line to Mono Leader for Fishing

    Step 1
    Form loop with the braid.
Lay the tag ends of the braid and the monofilament parallel to each other. Leave about 12 inches of tag on each of the lines. Form a loop with the braid.
    Step 2
Make six turns around the braid loop.
Run the tag end around both of the parallel lines six times. Pull the tag end slowly to tighten the knot. Make sure the knot tightens evenly and the coils stay in a row.
    Step 3
    Tighten the knot.
Keep pulling the tag end until the knot is fully tightened. The coils should butt up against the next coil without riding up on each other. When the knot is tight, trim the tag end flush with the knot.
  2. Step 4
    Complete the knot.
Tie another uni-knot on the monofilament end of the line. Ensure that the knot is tight and then trim the tag end flush against the knot's body. Slowly pull on both of the main lines until the knots slide and butt up against each other.

That's the one I've been using for the last couple years. No problems at all with it yet.

Trying to put new braid on her rods
I've showed her this knot last year and again this year. Takes some patience to tie, which her Italian blood doesn't have

Thanks Stewie and 1dozenraw for showing me.
Only eight more of "her" rods to go! And I am not doing any of em'
I am in for a Looooong night.

Best knot to use! (Alberto Knot ) They Don't Call Him "Crazy" For Nothing!!

I just tie my braid to a barrel swivel then mono on the other end

Only problem if your not careful when reeling in at night you can knick the ceramic guide on the tip of your rod. With the Alberto knot you can reel the knot in all the way on your reel!! I like to use a long leader.I wrap 5 or 6 wraps around the spool. The knot goes hrough the guides with no problem.

That's useless when you are tying braid to mono backer when spooling the reel. Or when you are tying a shock leader to your main line.

Barrel swivel is the way to go. If you fish often enough, you will feel when the leader is getting close. As for the backing question, use 5 or 6 wraps of mono on the spool to prevent slippage and a blood knot to the braid or whatever makes you happy.

For my part, I find it faster and easier to tie than uni-uni or bimini to no-name, and I can't for the life of me tie a nail knot or blood knot.

A simple Blood knot is faster and easier to do than either of those.

I've tied that knot so many times that I can tie it blind folded with mono. When tying it with braid it SLIPS. What are you doing different from me? Super glue

When having to tie a knot in the dark while standing in the surf, I've joined braid to a flurocarbon leader using a simple surgeon knot. Easiest knot to tie. After making the knot, I usually make an overhand knot on the tag end of the braid and push that knot tight to the surgeon knot, then I clip off the tag end. I've never had the braid slip the knot, even after hanging up on the bottom and pulling until the line breaks.
