I was watching the Today Show and they reported that a meteor about the size of a ten story building actually passed between the earth and the moon. It was moving at 12 miles per second

Yikes - that would have made an impact had it hit us or the moon! Forget global warming!

12 miles a second! Now that is motoring! Lets be thankful it wasn't 10 miles in diameter and heading toward us.

Surprising enough scientists and astronomers track many Potentially Hazardous Asteroids (PHAs) which are large space rocks that can come close to Earth.
On March 3, 2009 there were 1033 potentially hazardous asteroids

I did some shrooms once in college and saw hundreds of meteors.

if it wasn't within the earth's atmosphere it was a meteoroid, not a meteor.
