I've had very good luck with the Dicks Sporting goods IM-7 Quest rods (May now be called Field and Stream) - Fuji reel seat/fuji guides and less than $40.

Awesome deal - In my opinion.

BPS Micro lite( mine 6'6 ML pack rod for FW bass but may be on the light side to go with the reel you have) or cabelas Fish Eagle II make nice proven spinning rods and can be had for less than $50 esp. if you hit a clearance sale. Good luck.

I work at one part time. They are a dicks exclusive and you are correct they are no longer quest, now Field & Stream. The quest is a great rod for the $$. Never tried the F&S as they are new. Go for an all star select. I think you can pick them up for $49.99

another vote for the micro lites

just picked up the bps micro lite with the bps micro-lite glass spinning rod and i can't wait to get out there and use it. It feels amazing.
So i give another vote for the micro lite best value. It compliments my Shimano Sahara very well

i bought the ultra light shakespear at walmart and a few months later the top eye and top 3 inches-ish broke off i brought it back and the guy just told me that's a shame. so now im stuck with a broken ultra light but i got my bps micro light and i can;'t wait to take it out. The shakespear is a good cheap rod and reel but i think mine was a defect which gave me a bad taste in my mouth

You get what you pay for... I'm actually running braid through these Shakespeares and trying to break them (lifting fish with them, lifting weeds, super tight drag). Mine was $6.99 for a 6'6" and still running strong. Consider it an experiment of mine. However, they feel horrible with the EVA foam grips and the guides are just microscopic in diameter. They balance poorly and are as sensitive as logs. But again, we get what we pay for.

I found an Ande rod, 7' 6'' at walmart last year for $36.95. I liked it so much i bought two more this year! Use it for fresh and salt water. Hard to find sometimes. may have to hit up several walmarts before you find one.
