My dad is taking me and my brothers to sandy hook to go fishing next sunday. I want to try and catch a striper because I have never caught one before but my brothers and dad have both caught them. I have caught many other types of fish. I want to throw some plugs. I have about one of each main type. What kind would be the best to throw.

Will,
If you want to throw a plug try to match the hatch this time of the year. Right now the Mullet are starting to make their run. If there are fish on them they will be underneath them hitting them from there. Mullet ride on the top. Use a surfster style wooden plug that swims on top. You sound young. If you want a custom wood plug to try try a Bob Hahn Surfster in Mullet they are cheaper than some of the othets but catch fish. It will be a light mint green color with black stripes on the side if I am not mistaken.

Good luck

GSB

Will,
This time of year when mullet are around I fish a yellow, silver, and smokey joe red fins and silver mega baits. Swimmers are the McFadden or small danny in white or yellow. If you get there in dark fish a black plug. Fish all of em slow and a teaser wont hurt. AS it gets light look for pods of bait.
Oh also small poppers.
