Herman you can not crab off the big pier in Princeton anymore but there is a small pier near the north parking lot that is allowed. That being said I do not know how the crabbing in the harbor is nowadays. Before they built the inner brake water the current in the harbor was very good. Now it is more stagnant and I do not know how that affects the crabbing. the other choice would be the Pacifica pier. They have been doing fair numbers of rock crabs but not many dungeness are being caught yet.
Unfortunately they just closed the beaches in Pacifica because of the oil spill. So my thought about the pier is it may also be closed.
Some people do cast rings off the outer break water in Princeton. But I heard that can be nothing but a chance to lose your ring. I would think the crab snares might be a better idea.

The little pier that Winch is talking about does hold crabs mainly reds and rocks with a few Dungeness in the mix. Crabs rings with squid work well here. If you decide to crab the little pier just make sure you get their on the incoming closer to the top, low tide here is no good. As far the jetties go crab snares are the way to, put some lead and some fresh squid in the box and your in business.Hope that helps.
