Does anyone know if dogs are allowed on the beach area at the northern end of plum island at the river mouth? I've seen people with dogs there in the past but was wondering if anyone knew for sure. I'd like to be able to take my dog along when I fish there. Thanks.

I have been told that between Memorial Day and Columbus Day they are not allowed. Went there in April on a Sunday and it looked like a dog show. Now every time I go out during the afternoon/night I do not see any. I would call the chamber of commerce.

Been going there since the 60's and never seen anyone bothered because of a dog. If you do bring your pup and he likes the water be careful with the current at the river. Saw a dog get in a little trouble once.

HL&S, Plum Island is the barrier island on the south side of the mouth of the Merrimac River. If my memory is right it's about 7 miles long, north to south. Only one town left in in MA before you hit the New Hampshire border from PI.

On the MA side - either the river side parking lot or the ocean front, or the refuge, they will not allow dogs on once the lifeguards are there. My old roommate used to insist on taking his dog everywhere, and we always got kicked off. Then, we had to go over to the NH side where they do allow dogs. Last time, he paid his $10, walked onto the beach, got kicked off immediately (lifeguard on the 4 wheeler) asked for his $10 back, and was denied.

The other side of the river is still MA - Salisbury. The NH border is a couple of miles up the road.

I'll have mine on the rocks.
