Where - Wherever the fish are congregating. You didn't ask about when is the best time - whenever the fish are congregating. In other words, the best place is always where you should have been and the 2d best place is where you are, unless you're catching fish and then the best place order reverses.
FD, Does the phrase "spot burning" mean anything?

I apologize for any perceived sarcasm, it was intentional.
Welcome to SOL.

I have been fishing the manasquan inlet from the squan side to no avail using eels, clam, and bunker fishing the outgoing high tide. All I've caught so far in a couple weeks are 2 skates and a damn dog shark.

By spot burning do you mean sitting in a spot for hours upon end?

FD, That inlet or any inlet is a good spot. Try as close to the end as you can safely get during outgoing. Dusk, dawn or night might be best, lots of boat traffic through Manasquan during the day, especially weekends. Try some plugs or poppers - you have to stand for them, relieves any arse burning.

I think what they are trying to say is that we encourage folks to be very general when speaking about fishing locations online. There's thousands of people reading these threads every day - mentioning some specific street or a tiny town as a "hot spot" has resulted in overcrowding, littering...and ultimately, "No Trespassing" signs being posted. As such, as a website policy, we ask everyone to please be as general as possible in naming locations.
For example, we refer to the stretch from Shark River Inlet all the way to Manasquan Inlet as the "Spring Fling Zone" or "SFZ" - it's where we held our first Spring Fling There's no need to be more specific than that - if there's fish in that area, then they are in the area - naming a particular street or even a specific inlet jetty isn't gonna put anyone on any additional fish, it's just gonna put more people on that specific spot
That's what they mean by "spot burning"
As far as where's the best place to fish in NJ? That's up to you - wherever you best enjoy fishing - the bass can be caught in each bay, every river, every inlet and along every inch of 120 something miles of shoreline. The "best spot" is wherever you most enjoy it. My favorite spot is the section between Holgate and Sandy Hook. That's not sarcasm either, I like all the water in between those two locations and make an effort to fish as much of it as I possibly can every season

Show someone how to catch striped bass and they'll be ready to fish anywhere.
Show someone where to go striped bass fishing and you'll have a desperate report chaser with loose lips.
We love our stripers - please don't take more than yah need.
