All have black wet or dry soot .
Lawn mowers are the most abused piece of equipment known to man!!! What do you mean it takes oil in the crankcase?????
What it doesn't like to run on 2 year old gas??????
What is a tune up?? Changing the oil Is NOT a tune up!
But yes unless you are going to learn about the maintenance of your lawn mower just buy a new one when the old one dies and be sure to throw the old one in the dump to be crushed or put it beside the road with a free sign on it and see how long before it disappears!!!!

Check the oil level and air filter first, to see what's up......

Agreed. First things first. Make sure you have the proper oil level. Do not overfill. If so the crankcase back pressure can cause oil blow out. It's not an uncommon occurrence.

If it's running, there is probably NOTHING wrong with it, besides needing a little TLC.

Also mine would stop when trying to cut thick weeds. My mower hit metal pipe on the ground which stopped, i was able to restart it. Could it be indicative of another problem other than air filter or too much engine oil? Thanks.
