A pot for trapping, or just containment?

we used to use galvanized wire mesh.
years ago my dad would buy it in bulk from mid-city steel in westport.
he would get the seconds, the ones with a little screw up for cheaper $$$
we went to purchase a roll this spring and they don't sell the seconds anymore.
now you need to buy the good stuff which goes for $300/roll.
you might be better off buying them pre-made.
look at katch-em traps in new bedford.
they make commercial grade traps.

good luck.

it merely says something about our own need to be critical.

I've used the washed up vexar oyster spat bags for mesh recently. i think its alot cheaper than the wire. Like free for me . Take a walk along the North Shore from Mt Sianai east your bound to find some.

I'd build you one if i had the wire. Maybe i should order a roll of wire and build a bunch for sale to you guys We used to use 1/2" x 1" vinyl coated wire on 10" dia hoops. You might want to use 1/2x1/2 if you want to hold smaller eels. I have used the square pots that ketchum sells, they fished so-so, the round ones we used to fish did fish a lot better in my opinion. If you deside to build one just remember its all in the funnels, if you don't get them right you won't catch much. One other thing use "horsefeet" for bait its the best !!!

if your asking about the mesh size we used 1/2x1 so most of the smaller eels would get through the mesh, the buyer wanted eels that were as big around as your thumb and up. For rigging sized eels i'd try the 1/2x1/2 wire.

horsefoot= horseshoe crab use the females for bait, cut into 1/4's with ax. if you can't get horsefeet use whole clams about 8-10 per pot just crack shell with hammer.
