By the way, both spots are very kid friendly, with close and safe shoreline fishing. They're still good places to get the next generation addicted to our sport. Some of the more knowledgable freshwater guys on this board will probably supply more accurate information. Let us know how you do.

They stock a lot of fish in it...Both the state and the club...Some big fish too. And there's a winter stocking.
But it's not worth the aggravation. There are people who get there early and set up 8 poles in a row. There are crowds that make it hard to find a spot and make it even harder to make a cast.
To me, it's just not a fun place to go fishing. I'd much rather go to Surprise Lake or the Rahway River or Green Brook if I had to stay local.
Also, the lake doesn't have a strong bass population. Some bullheads, carp and sunfish, but not many bass. After the trout (and crowds) are gone, there's not much to catch.

When you're finished with the trout, there are the carp...

There has to be a law as to how many rods someone can fish! I can see 2-3 tops. Most of these guys don't even see the rods that get bit!
I hate that place! After the Trout die from suffocation due to the poor water quality and lack of dissolved oxygen, there are sunnies, stunted LMB and bullheads. Urban fishing at it's finest!
NJ has to re-think there Put n' Take trout fishery. Most of these mud puddles are just death row for hatchery fish. The state should require that a certain water quality be maintained before they stock trout.

Oh yea? What areas you catch the carp around?

there is, it's a 3 rod limit. Specifically enacted to prevent the behaivor you describe.

They're everywhere. Throw a handful of corn in the water and watch the wake come from all directions. Many are probably hand tame and cruise the wall looking for handouts...

By the way, the 3 pole limit was not in affect in 2006, it was new this year - 2008.

If you're after trout, I'd hit the Rahway River or Milton Lake in the spring. Bass - can't go wrong with Nomehegan (spelling?) or Surprise Lake.
