  1. How do you like to attach teasers to a swivel? I've been using a uni-knot on 80# Ande pink mono to attach it at a 90° angle to the swivel, but no matter what after a few casts the knot slides down a sits against the mainline knot. Is there a better knot to use that won't slide down? Am I knot tying the not tight enough? I know a lot of people use the smaller sized quick clips to attach them, and I have also. The problem is I believe it leads to more fouling of the lines. Is this something that is just going to happen no matter what I do?
  2. Hey all, I recently started using the Bimini twist to Bristol knot for my shock leaders as it's easier to tie out on the jetty than an FG or Alberto knot. Using a 9ft spinning setup I lost 2 jigs with the whole shock leader, I'm pretty sure the doubled line is getting caught on a guide when I'm casting because one of the two times the top section of my two piece rod almost went flying off and the breaks happened at the same part of the cast. I've read of others on this forum who use them so I feel like I'm doing something wrong. Above all I REALLY want to stop losing gear, but I also like this knot a lot and can tie it fast and consistently, I dread having to retie an FG or Alberto when I'm on the sand or rocks. Can anyone offer some guidance? What are your go to shock leader knots when you're in the field?
  3. Wondering how everyone splices braid? UNI to UNI most common but the weakest and slips with smooth braid Bimni to cats paw to bimni long knot Fg or albright to mono and then another fg or albright
  4. after tying and re-tying the same leader knot 3 times tonight, i realized i’m an obsessive knot re-tyer. question to the group: what are your fishing preparation quirks, habits, superstitions, etc?
  5. I've been fishing for years with my goto Uni & double uni knots. I ran across a YouTube video of an older guy tying braid to mono with a knot that had a loop that goes through the eyes first with tags that pointed down causing minimum friction going through the eyes when casting. Anyone familiar? Can't find video and wanted to try it.
  6. I have a quick, possibly stupid, and totally embarrassing question for you guys, so please be gentle... so I recently was out fishing the jetties here in New Jersey, with my 8wt outfit that's loaded with my favorite line - the Rio Outbound short ( clear head, yellow running line ), and a fairly new one in perfect condition, at that. So like a total fool, I decided to light a cigar, and at some point an ash fell into my stripping basket that i didn't see and it melted right through my $90 line, somewhere in the middle of the yellow running line. I ended up tying the fly line back together with a blood knot, just to see if the line was still capable of casting, and luckily it was still fine, didn't notice any problem, other then the knot bumping through the guides if i casted that far. So my question is this: until I can afford a replacement, what would be the best way to reconnect the two pieces of fly line so that it will be strong enough to confidently fight a fish, and flush/smooth enough to travel through the guides without catching on them?
  7. I found this dropper loop rig on a LI Jetty last year and stuffed it in my pocket to look at later because of it’s unique nature, check it out —-> it appears to be made of two separate line pieces, and with the length of the perpendicular wraps the “hook stand-off” is quite good. I’d like to try making ones like this to use this Spring to drag 5” Gulp! Grubs across the bottom with a 2oz. Sinker / thinking it would be perfecto! Any idea what this knot is called / how to tie it? Thanks.

  10. Has anyone played around with using the ag chain knot to connect braid to terminal tackle? ie. swivels. If so, with or without a sleeve?
  11. Been spooling 150 yds of 18, 24 & 40 lb Gliss on several Penn reels & wonder about their recommended Gliss to mono knot. Seems you have to tie the Gliss part 1st - haven't tried the Gliss to swivel yet !! Any being using & maybe a better Gliss to mono knot ????
  12. Hi I hope that I am in the right place for my questions since this is my first time in the forum. I am going to go surf fishing for the first time to Chacahua, Oaxaca in Mexico, and I have seen fisherman fishing from the beach, and from a big rock structure and they fished some big fish like different species mackerel, snook, red snappers, and even mahi mahi, and tuna sometimes over 50lb, they always use lures over there. I bought the Penn fierce 8000 combo with the 10ft rod, I also bought 80lb Power Pro line. My questions are: Since I am fishing with braid for the first time which leader material, and strength is more recomended for fishing from a rock structure, and the beach?(the sea floor is just sand, no rocks) Should I use wire leader? Should I use a swivel to attach the leader to the main line or just a uni to uni knot? I am planning on using lures most of the time, so I really want to avoid loosing them because of a bad set up, or a toothy mackerel. Also I am having several issues with cinching the last loop on the double palomar with the 80lb Power Pro, the last loop wont cinch because the other knot is already too tight, because when I pull my line it just tightens the first knot, and not the loop itself. What can I do? or should I just avoid this and use the Double Uni knot. Thank you!
  13. I fish bait caster reels with 15 lb braid on them. I started to use fluorocarbon leaders(15lb) but I have been snapping my line a lot at the knot recently. Sometimes I will snap it on the cast so I think the problem is in my knot. I have been using the double uni knot with a drop of superglue in it . What is a better knot for joining braid and fluorocarbon
  14. Hello Everyone, Hope all is well! Question: Will I have problems using a double uni knot (braid to fluro) in regards to wear and tear on the knot from casting? I took a few practice casts the other day and it felt like the knot was getting jammed up a bit through the eyelets. Nervous the knot will break while taking a beating on the guides. I have the knot trimmed and snugg. Any suggestions? Outfit: 7'M St. Croix Tidemaster, Shimano Stradic FJ4000, Spiderwire stealth hi viz 20lb, seaguar pink label 25lb fluro
