  1. While doing some gear cleaning I noticed I clousered the hell out of my top section. The lower chip is to the carbon, and maybe a fiber or two got nicked- I can’t tell without a magnifying glass. Would you all leave as is, try to float some flexcoat in there, or see about a manufacturer repair? Start shopping since it’s an inevitable snap?
  2. Hello builders, Was wondering if anyone had some advice to salvage a plug when some of the mixed epoxy fails to set (I assume I used too much hardener in my mix)? I have a needlefish and a couple of small crankbaits from this batch of epoxy that have a nice even coat but with some residue of hardener spread across the entire surface after almost 5 days drying. Is there some kind of light solvent I could use to "clean" off the excess hardener that is still wet without disturbing what I assume is a nice even epoxy coat just below it? Or is it best to mix up another small batch of epoxy and recoat (being very careful of ratio)? Thanks for any insight. Still pretty new to all this and this needlefish is my favorite paint job so far so would like to rescue it.
  3. Hogy epoxy for sale 5 new in a bag 1.25oz 3 lightly used ones on top and in hand 80$ to your door.
  4. Hi everyone, I have just finished building a lighter inshore rod that I am also planning to use for some freshwater applications. The rod turned out pretty nice, but after I epoxied the thread wraps I noticed that there were many spots that looked like there were small tag ends sticking up out of the finish. I went back and looked at the grey thread that I had used and noticed that it was somewhat wirey and frayed at some points in the spool. I believe that after putting the epoxy on the thread wraps, the frayed sections stuck out of the layer of epoxy causing it to have a slightly spikey look. I have been thinking about how to solve this and I was wondering what everyone thinks that I should try. Am I able to put a second coat of epoxy on the wraps? I was also wondering if anyone has had this issue occur while building a rod before, and if so, how did you combat it? I will post some pictures in a little bit. Thanks in advance. Salty
  5. So I have my first batch of plugs painted, built and ready to epoxy and I'm not happy with my epoxy. I am using a heavy duty 2-part epoxy that Loctite puts out and it seems way too thick. I am struggling to spread it over the whole surface. I've read the posts and mixed it properly. I know people like Envirotex but Loctite is what I found at Home Depot so I'm using it. Is there any truth to warming it up the bottles in hot water first? Will that make it easier to apply? I've read that some of you guys get through 10 or more plugs in one application. There's no way I could that with this stuff. Is 5 min setting time too quick??
  6. Hello everyone, I'm a newbie to this forum and have read up on a few other topics similar to this one but haven't found anything dealing with sealing the bark onto the wood slab. I made this large sign for my parents cabin, it's about 44" long and nearly 3" thick. It's dry and I have wood burned the letters into the woods and used some acrylic paint on it as well. I want to seal the entire piece, front and back, and try to keep the bark on it. It will be hanging outdoors and I'm hoping it will last for many years. Is epoxy my best bet? What seems to be the best for a project like this? Thank you so much for any help you are able to offer.
  7. Hi everyone--in the process of removing guides on a surf rod I found that the guides are not wrapped with thread?they are epoxied on the rod and very well--I have never seen this before how common is this method? is there an easy method in getting the epoxy off the rod or is the blade method my only choice?--thanks for any help--rreelman
  8. Anyone on here make a spinner for heavy bucktails? Wondering if the spinners with the springs will work? I have a small one I been using that I got from The Reel Seat which is great for teasers, siwash hooks and bucktails up to 1oz but it struggles with the heavier jigs I epoxy plus I want to be able to spin larger batches.
