So I was picking up a a bunch of lectric stuff today. I saw 60$ petsafe bark collars for 14$ . Score!. My parents are bringing all three pooches with them on their first snowbirds trip. Their big concern is Dusty, the 16 yr old blind and toothless, adopted poodle. I just score two collars that should put their mind at ease while at the park. Well, I followed the instructions to a T. I fit it perfectly then said "mom watch". I knocked on the wall and sure enough Dusty starts going apeshart and nothing happens. Oops, didn't turn battery thingy to activate it. Corrected that and again said " Mom watch". I knocked on the wall and sure enough, old barky goes nuts. First bark stop him in his tracks. The second bark ( increases frequency with each bark up to 6) and Dusty yelps, bites down on his leg starts spinning in circles and falls over still gumming his leg. I thought it was brilliant. He was okay and could go to Florida with mom and dad and not need boarding. As my mom stared at me with those eyes that say " I'm getting my spatula and you better be gone when I come back or I will beat you sensless", the other two young dogs ( Brittany and poodle) come over and start licking Dusty. Then the clearance dog collar beeped a warning and coco and Noel started barking like maniacs at Dustys new collar. The collar starts going crazy and Dusty is losing is shart. I grabbed that collar and pulled it from his neck as far as I could. Before I unbuckled it, noel took one more bark, and man, that is not a tingly zap. The friggin collar locked my fingers up. Well, mom told me to leave. I gave Dusty snuggles and left. Moral of the story, do not buy deep clearance items designed to electrocute things. You get what you pay for. I don't think I'm doing Thanksgiving with mom and dad this year. Petsafe? Bullshart. ( bark collars are not safe, they're cruel and painful, I strongly advise against them from what I saw. ) ( invisible fences are one thing, but a painful shock for doing what dogs instinctively do is horrid)
