  2. Hello everybody I am bringing this topic to the table to discuss a straightforward question What conventional reel is good for casting on a long rod, for smaller sharks. Using castable shark rigs. I intend to use no less than 50lb braid. Using mono top shot as well I mainly fish conventional reels and not too big on spinners I have a custom surf rod being built 12 foot 6 inches rated 6 to 16 oz and looking to pair it with a good reel for casting out cut baits for smaller sharks Going for blacktips and spinner sharks mainly under 5 foot. The only that seems to make sense for this approach is the Accurate Valiant BV2-500 2 SPEED CONVENTIONAL below are the specs Thanks in advance Gear ratio High: 6:1 Low: 3:1 Max drag 30lb line capacity 425yds/50lb inches per crank High: 45" Low: 23" Reel weight 16.3oz Right handed
  3. St. Croix Legend Elite Musky Rod. Model LEM86MHF. 8' 6" Medium Heavy Power. Fast Action. 30 - 65LB, 3/4 - 3 oz. Mint condition, only fished once or twice in freshwater and has been stored since with the cover on. I have the same rod with same specs in 9 ' length. Will sell that one instead if it interests you more but for now, will only sell one now and keep the other. Local meet in North NJ. $520
  4. WTB Ron Arra Pro Surf Rod(s). 2 piece unless local to San Francisco for 1 piece rods.
  5. Vintage, fiberglass, good condition. Two piece with new guides. $40 Pick up in Bergen County.
  6. Back in November I purchased a very Lightly used Lamiglas Super Surf G2 SSS10MS for a bargain basement price in the $300 range. Wasn’t in the market but needed a quick replacement for a Lami GSB91MS and it fit the bill. Unexpectedly I loved it so much that I decided I absolutely had to acquire a 9’ Super Surf SSS9MS to fill exactly the need that had been vacated by the GSB. I believe it will in addition to whipping lighter artificials it would also be capable of working slightly heavier demands for which I specifically selected that model GSB. When I called my local tackle shop at the End of Dec. 2022 to ask my guy to get me one. He told me best hold off for a few months as he’d been told a new model was in final stages of initial manufacture. Fast forward to last week. My guy called to let me know the reel seat relocation and X-flock grips replacing old cork on my 9’ Stellar Lite were complete. At this time I asked and was informed that the Super Surfs we’re starting to ship, should be ready very soon and Lami reps were demo-ing the new Super Surf blanks to their dealers. SO….. Anyone have any info on the new bad boys? Held them? Seen them? Know if they’re Gen II of G2 line or if they’re being designated as the G3? Related: I did note today that almost every model of complete and blank current SS G2 line is sold out so it would seem this is going to be rolled out as a complete update/improvement/of the current articulation. I guess we’ll see!
  7. I have packed it in for the year and cleaned and stored all my surf fishing tackle. I do have a question about rod maintenance. During the season while actively fishing, rods and reels get a freshwater rinse after each outing and wiped down with Penn Rod and Reel cleaner every 2 or 3 trips. At year-end they get the same treatment, but a more thorough cleaning and coating with the Penn R & R cleaner. What else do folks do to 'winterize' rods for storage?
  8. It's a 2 piece 11foot Called the "bulldog" If anyone has any information on it I will greatly appreciate it Thank you
  9. Hello hello this is my first post I’ll try to keep it to the point. Im going sturgeon fishing in Idaho and I need a rod capable of spin casting 6-12oz of weight, preferably a 50/50 12’. I’d love to hear what recommendations you guys produce. I usually backlash casting so I am looking for a spinner. It’ll be paired with a SV7500 65lb braid. Thanks.
  10. For sale is my used black hole Suzuki surf rod. Absolutely love this rod, has always been a pleasure to fish and I am only selling it because it’s not getting the use it deserves and cash is tight. The tip guide has been replaced by my local tackle shop. They did what I would call a mediocre job, but it has caused no noticeable difference or had any negative effect. The original guide insert fell out while fishing. I fished this rod probably about two dozen times and over all I’d say is in great shape. Local pick up only. Located near lbi in ocean county
  11. I am looking to buy a 12’ Black Hole East Coast Special 2-6oz surf rod. Does anyone have any experience or feedback with this rod or brand that they can share? I like the advertised weight (15.5oz) and the even two-piece split (shorter disassembled length). I intend to use it for long casting surf fishing (Outer Banks), with a 5000 Daiwa reel. Problem is I'm based in Canada so it is hard for me to find a place where I could even hold it in my hand for a couple of minutes before buying, so I’m a little unsure of what I would be getting in terms of feel, balance, build quality, etc by ordering direct online. For comparison I was also looking at the Carolina Cast Pro 12’ 3-7oz (I have a 10’ in this series – I find it to be “ok”), Team Daiwa 12’ 2-9oz, or a Centaury 12’ Sling shot 2-5 oz (but heavier at 18.5oz and more expensive). I usually use 2-5oz weights on my lines. Any thoughts or feedback appreciated.
  12. Here we have a nice ODM NXD-1064, has been used on the open beach only. Not a mark on the upper, lower only has a small amount of rash from being in a rod holder. (See Pic) Rod is marked 3/4-4. I bought this new from Tackle Direct so the bag is included. $225.00 I can ship this in Heavy Duty 4" tube. East coast in the $30 range or less. Can meet up. I am in South Jersey half way between Philly and AC. Thanks for looking, Pat

  14. Anyone try these spinning rods yet? Looks like it has some new technology (sounds similar to what Shimano has done in some of their freshwater lines) as well as a 15 year warranty from St. Croix. I'm not a St. Croix guy but this does seem good for a mid-range surf rod. SEAGE SURF SPINNING RODS - St. Croix Rod (stcroixrods.com)

  19. I have a St Croix Avid Surf 9’6” Medium Heavy - Model # - VSS96MHF2 - surf rod for sale. I Bought this on an impulse because I always wanted one, but unfortunately it’s not gonna work for me. Simply not my preference or what I need at this time. Figured before I start a return on Monday I’d see if anyone here would like to purchase it over the weekend as I know there aren’t many around . Figured it couldn’t hurt. It cost me $350 to purchase. It would cost me shipping to return it, so I am willing to take $325 net to me. Local pickup only. Otherwise I might as well return it. Located in Northeast PA on the border of NY, NJ, and PA. Feel free to ask any questions you may have.
  20. Looking to buy 9-10 foot CTS rods - surf and jetty, bay caster, vapor trail, etc looking for lightly used to new condition rods, will pay above acv for the right rod. Philly/ jersey /New York area or willing to ship. Broke a few rods - help me out.
  21. I got to spend a short period of time casting both the ODM DNA 8ft and the 2021 Genesis 8ft rods today so I figured I would do a quick write up for anyone who's interested. Unfortunately I didn't fish either rod or throw an array of plugs so this isn't a full and complete review. I casted both rods with lead (1/2oz, 1oz, and 2oz) Initial impressions: The 2021 genesis is noticeably lighter and thinner as soon as you pick up the rod. Literally the lightest surf rod I ever recall picking up. That being said, the DNA is not far behind. Its light enough to be impressed by its weight but it doesn't quite match the genesis. I didn't notice the weight much if any while casting since both are light rods but it might make a difference over time. The components on both rods seem very solid (I believe they have the same components but I'm not certain). The only thing I didn't like about both rods is that they have this slightly chunky plastic reel seat. The reel for both rods seems very solid, but its hard plastic and can be uncomfortable if you have a tendency to grab around the base of the reel. Since It is a surf rod and most people will be using the upper grip, I don't see this being much of an issue. The grips on the genesis are thinner than the DNA. The DNA grip also provides some contours on the upper grip which I would think most casters would enjoy. Both grips are good but I would assume most people would have a preference Casting and Rod Action The DNA is listed and Mod-Fast while the Genesis is listed as Moderate. I had no experience with the prior genesis rods so I can't speak on a comparison to the older ones. Both rods had very similar actions despite being labeled as different. I don't necessarily think they are listed incorrectly, I just think they are more similar than they are different 1/2oz: This is where the I felt the DNA did a little better. It really felt like I could "fling" and 1/2 oz lead weight effortlessly. It felt automatic. This is where you could get a feel for the DNA's slightly faster action. The genesis was right there as well. If the DNA was a 10/10 then the genesis would be a 8.5 or 9/10. 1oz: I couldn't tell the difference here. I had almost no preference. Maybe a slight nod to the genesis, but the actions really evened out with 1oz on the end of the line. Take a look at the pictures I attached. The first picture is the genesis while the 2nd is the DNA. Almost identical action show in these pictures. 2oz: This is where the genesis did better. I felt like I had a little bit more control with the genesis and it provided slightly more feedback during the backcast. I did notice that the rod felt slightly more moderate at this point. The DNA did great too, I just preferred the genesis here. I wish I had gotten slowmo video for this weight since you would have likely seen a slightly more noticeable difference in actions. Final Thoughts: Both rods are seriously good. I wish this was as easy as declaring a winner and saying the genesis was just an improved DNA but thats not the case. It would make my life a lot easier since I'm only keeping one of these rods. The DNA seems to have the edge on the light stuff so this would probably be my preference for soft plastics on jig heads under 1oz and lighter bucktails. The Genesis takes the cake on throwing heavier stuff and also edges the DNA in weight. I'm hesitant to speculate on how well each would throw sp minnows or other small/ mid sized plugs but I would guess the genesis would win here. That being said, I would likely stick to the DNA for throwing small metals and epoxy jigs. I hope this helps anyone trying to make the same decision. Either way they both handle the range of 1/2-2oz incredibly well.
  22. For sale is a Daiwa Ballistic 35-405B surf rod blank. Brand new with tags. Includes counter weights and carrying bag. Decided I don't need to build another surf rod to add to my collection. Rod rated 4-12oz. 3 piece is very easy to transport. Beautiful blank on a sunny day. $290 shipped contiguous USA. Here are some pics of another Daiwa Ballistic I built to inspire the rod builders out there.
  23. I'm looking to buy a new "throw the whole bag" rod in the coming months. Lately I've been spoiled by fly shops letting me cast every rod on the rack. It's hard to imagine making a 400+ purchase on a rod now without actually getting to cast. Does anyone know of any shop or manufacture that does demo days in New Jersey? ODM, Lamiglas, Century, St. Croix are all on my Radar.
