Thanks to a hard fighting Hatteras Island woman, thanks Mrs. Ackley, I am bringing you this information today.
"Doug Mcgee, whose is in charge of the shorebird nesting program at CAHA, is going to be giving a presentation at the Avon Fire Hall on Friday Sept. 18 at 7:30 p.m. to the Cape Hatteras Bird Club." Wouldn't it be nice to ask a few questions? Why with over 800 mammalian "predators" removed, totally closed beaches, and hardly any storm overwash did the birds not fair any better this year? Why does NPS continue to encourage birds to nest ON THE BEACH, where clearly there are too many conflicts? Why is vegetation overgrowing vast habitat that used to support a large number of beach nesting birds? Do bird enclosures hamper Sea Turtle nesting? Is it your opinion that birds have greater success out of the intertidal zone? Why isn't NPS getting the support of the local community, which it is bound to do? Can you do anything to help fledgling rates at CAHA? |
