HATTERAS ISLAND, NC (AP) -- In the wake of Hurricane Bill, officials evacuated at least eight Outer Banks homes Saturday, some because they had five feet of water underneath them. Also, the Audubon Society believes the swells pushed out from the hurricane wiped away the last of the sea turtle nests Saturday night.
Attorneys representing the Society and the Defenders of Wildlife are scheduled to appear before an emergency joint session of Congress Monday morning. The animal rights organizations are demanding that hurricanes be prohibited from entering Cape Hatteras National Seashore boundaries during turtle and bird nesting seasons. Immediate legislative action is expected to authorize enforcement of the ban by the weekend. |

I hope the hurricane didn't vandalize any of the closure signs or fences. There could be some significant closure expansions if they did.
