How far north are you able to catch blue crabs?

Default Carova

There up there on the back side of Carova, just make sure you have a freshwater license, as you need it in the sound north of the Wright Brothers Bridge. Get some for me when your there!

I know I have seen plenty of crab pots near the Knotts Island/Currituck Ferry crossing route, and on the crossing this mid June, saw quite a few large jimmies swimming by on the surface.......and that is pretty far up......

Oh, and as to the license.....I know in regular salt water in NC, you DO NOT need a salt water fishing license to take blue crabs. But since a freshwater license is needed in northern Currituck Sound, not sure how that work?

Default License

From the NCDMF site:
Q. – Do I need a Recreational Commercial Gear License to use pots?
A. – Yes, Recreational Commercial Gear License holders are limited to a total of five eel, fish, shrimp or crab pots. (Of the five, only two can be eel pots. Peeler pots are not allowed.) One crab pot per person may be attached to the shore along privately owned land or to a privately owned pier without a Recreational Commercial Gear License.
Q. – When does the Recreational Commercial Gear License expire?
A. – One year from the date of purchase.
Q. – Do children need to buy a Recreational Commercial Gear License?
A. – No, if the child is under 16, (16 years and older must have a license) he/she can fish with a parent, grandparent or guardian who has a Recreational Commercial Gear License or the parent/grandparent/guardian can give the license to a child to fish.

Wasn't thinking pots.....was talking drop lines or trot lines with dip nets, or collapsible traps.
