Hey I have been a member for years. USed to go to cape cod every year with family and did some great fishing. I love the cape. Well this september four generations of anglers are heading to Duck to enjoy each other and hopefully catch some fishes (the ladies are going too but don;t fish).
1. We will be fishing from shore mostly. sound or surf what might be biteing, what do I use for rigs bait etc. Any chance of blues my dad has never caught one he's 83. I got lots on lurs from the cape and this foum.. pencils etc, Any work in OBX? 2. We would like to hire a professional guide one night or day to take us surf fishing. There would be three or four of us. Any recomendations? how much does something like that run. 3. Can you recomend a head boat? We would like to do that also. 4. Can anyone recomend a chsrter? Don't know if we can afford it as there will only be two or three going. What kind of fish do charters catch in september? I realy love this forum it was so helpfull fishing the cape when coming from Ohio and not knowing sh t from shine ola Point me too some threads also!! Thanks Big Dan |

Hey Big Dan,
In Sept. you will have your normal taylor blues, flounder, sea mullet (whiting) etc. around the Duck area. If you have a 4x4, you will be able to do Ocracoke, Hatteras, Buxton, Avon, Rodanthe, Oregon Inlet, Corolla. Then you can get here, check the fishing reports and go where the fish are. |

Oregon Inlet fishing center has charters and they do make up charters also when the fleet is not booked. Also some smaller inshore boats for 2-3 guys.

Things will start heating up around the Outer Banks then. Big Spanish in the surf, puppy drum, some bluefish. If you drive down to Hatteras Village there are a few good inshore captains there that will put you on the fish. Capt. Rick Scarborough & Captain Doug Martin are out of Teachs Lair Marina. They come recommended by many people. Close enough to get out of Hatteras Inlet.
Rock Solid Charters out of Oregon Inlet is another good inshore boat. Stop by Hatteras Jack's in Rodanthe. Nice small shop but very helpful. |

I thought I should just throw this in, cause its kind of a big factor in whether sept will be good fishin or not. For the past month an a half the water really hasn't gone much over 65, and when it has, its only in the 70's for a day or two. I was told this is being caused by the "Bermuda High". I don't know what truth there is in this, but what I do know is, fishing has been extremely slow for surf fishing on the northern obx, aside from the flounder, random pups, an spot.

constant southwest winds cause and up welling of cold water--blows warm water on the surface off the beach. worse this year than most--sure has made our near shore fishing sucky. hopefully by then the weather patterns will change. TWs Bait and Tackle has a surf guide working there.

From my experience in Sept, think "Sound" fishing. Usually pretty good, and can rent a yak for a bill a week. To me better than getting a surf guide to show you where the fish aren't
Will be down, the same week....Good Luck, and just my $.02 ![]()

Do not forget pompanos . Light tackle with barely enough lead to the bait in the wash. get some shrimp for bait and advice at the local tackle shop .Good luck.
