Default Is the Heaver going to be necessary at Emerald Isle?

So I'm going to Emerald Isle this week and debating whether or not to bring the ol' HDX. I'm going to bring my 10' triumph and probably use that for 3nBait or slinging metal, (don't want to push the 4 oz rating.) And I'm also going to bring my 8'6" premier for carolina rigs as well as slinging metal. Problem is I don't know if the Triumph will suffice for the bait rigs and I feel the HDX is going to overpower the size of fish down in EI. Any suggestions?

Not necessary and not advised if you are fishing for Reds, flounder, trout, blues, sea mullet and pompano.

Hey Hawks,
I'll be down there the 15th to the 30th fishing the surf with my 12' Tica. Bring the heaver for some sharks. I catch 'em every year and they're a blast. It's good news hearing they're around. Just set up a smaller rod for the blues and any other small fish out there. I use whole pinfish for the sharks and blues. Shrimp is always great bait down there, pompano, blues, pinfish, mullet all hit it.
Where are you staying down there? I'll be in front of Queens Court all that time.

You just missed me. I left on Wednesday and I came back today. Didn't get much fishing in. Tried fresh shrimp but no luck. Spent most of my time slingling stingsilvers but nothing. Saw a bit of fish jumping while I had shrimp soaking but didn't bring the lure rod with me during that outing.

Where abouts have you been fishing? People were having some luck on the bogue inlet pier, which I did not and regret to fish off. My short outings were along the surf by that pier and the fort macon jetty.

I've just been hitting the surf in front of Queens Court. I also pulled out a nice Spanish a couple days ago. The action has slowed down though. Still waiting for a bigger shark to come around

My g/f's parents just built a house down on emerald isle. We are planning to take a trip down there next spring/early summer. If I bring my kayak down there what should i expect to catch? I'm sure i'll throw some jigs out while i'm down there as well as doing some bottom fishing.

I'm by no means an expert on Emerald Isle, but I believe sound side fishing can yield puppy drum and specs. I've heard good things about fishing Swansboro which is just before you cross the bridge to Emerald.
