Default Southern Shores regulated fishing times????

I'm staying in Southern Shores the 18th-25th. Someone told me tonight that they heard there are now some rules concerning when you can fish in the surf? I thought you could fish pretty much when you wanted as long as your not dropping 2oz sinkers on the swimmers heads. I had visions of watching my girls play in the sand all day while I keep a line in the water. Should I bring all my normal gear that I use on the Maryland beaches?

Nope its the same everywhere around here,But up there the People feel like theycan tell you where and when to fish because they are renting big bucks and they think they are entitled to the beach. EFFIN

Thanks for the replies! I'm renting one of those big houses on the beach also, so I guess I sort of got as much right to be there fishing as they to. Don't get me wrong, if I have a family set up near us and they are in the water swimming and such, I doubt I'll have a line in the water. However, if me and my girls are fishing and someone starts horning in on us, I may have to stand my ground, as long as there's not a law or regulation keeping me from fishing at that time. Thanks again!

Southern Shores has it's own police force and their own rules concerning beach driving (none), beach parking (southern shores permit to park in the lot) and dogs on the beach. I haven't heard the no fishing one but would be shocked if it existed and even more so if enforced. You will need a NC saltwater license to fish. The Hilton has opened their pier to the public for a daily fee. Enjoy.

I just called the southern shores town hall to check as I live right on the kitty hawk/southern shores border and there are no restrictions as far as fishing times. Do follow the posted speed limits, they change often and the ss police are looking to write tickets.

Pin, find a rip current or "out-suck" and fish there, after all that is where the fish will be.

Let some idiot come and tell you they want to swim there and you have to move. Then let the idiot swim there, you will have your spot back in a short time, after the rescue folks leave.

Default Sorry for the late report.

Fished the entire week from the 18th to the 25th between 9th Ave and 10th Ave in southern shores, mostly before, after and during high tides. Several spot, small flounder, one 14" weakfish, and some snapper blues. The wind blew out of the east the first three days there, than switched to the south. The night of the switch, high tide was about 8:00pm. The snapper blues hit us like a ton, for about a hour and a half you had all the action you wanted, it was too bad they were all small. All and all had a great time on the OBX. We will be back next summer.
