I need some help planning a trip to the Outer Banks. Im thinking of planning a family trip for begining of Sept. If anyone could reccomend some rental homes or areas. I would like to do some striper fishing. Also if you could tell me what kind of equipment to bring. Im from Long Island N.Y. and mainly plug and bucktail our rocky terrain. I have never been to the Banks and any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance Mike |

Few if any stripers around then. Speckled trout, flounder, red drum, spots mullet and bluefish.

The other issue with September is the possiblity of hurricaines and evacuations....not an overwhelming chance, but a chance none the less.

also keep in mind any beach closures, for whatever reason "they" seem appropriate at the time.
And the OBX varies greatly in things to do,places to stay. NagsHead/Kittyhawk areas = touristy, shopping etc.... Buxton,Hatteras areas = less people, a bit more serene and probably less expensive rentals, depending on what you want.

If you want to fish, head south to Buxton, Frisco or Hatteras Village. Hatteras Realty or Midgett Realty can help you with rentals. Too early for stripers but a good mixed bag in September. Buy the insurance when you rent. Not too costly and worth it if a storm does turn up. You can bring anything from a 7 to 71/2' spinning rod for flounder, working Gulps, small Hopkins or your bucktails, on up. Surf rods in the 9 to 10' range will probably do. You can try some plugs - most along the Outer Banks stick to stingsilvers and hopkins. I have had some luck with a Bluefish Bomb. Most bottom fish with cut bait, mullet or bunker, or shrimp or bloodworms for smaller bottom feeders. Hope this helps. Stop in at one of the local tackle shops for advice. Good ones in Buxton, Frisco or Hatteras Village. Have fun and good luck.

Avoid the first two weeks of September as that is the peak of Hurricane Season if any thing is gonna happen it usually does by that time.
